I do doordash, not uber so a bit different but I definitely do some cherry picking. The doordash app tries to make you care about your acceptance rate so much lol but as long as it’s above 70% you aren’t negatively affected. If I don’t make $1.50 to $2.00 per mile on a dash I don’t take it, simple rule works wonders for me.

Driver in san diego. Im shocked youre even getting decent rides. Even the reservation rides out here are paying less. I used to be highest tier and never noticed a single difference. I’ve driven for Uber for over 7 years. I used to be a diamond driver and accepted every trip thrown my way. I went through THREE cars, had TWO nearly fatal not-at-fault accidents with no help from Uber or their “insurance” because I was not at fault, and I started driving full time because at 1st it was profitable but then it wasn’t and I lost my apartment twice even though I was driving 12 hour days. I rented with Uber and I was making 1200+ a week but after 250 a week on gas, 400 for the rental and energy drinks, car washes, air fresheners, I was coming home with 300 a week. I’m disgusted with myself for not leaving the app sooner because I believe I had found the perfect job. I was homeless, sleeping on a friend’s couch wondering how I made it to that place after making so much money FOR Uber. I know have a REAL job and while every job has its issues, I’m making what I expect to make and my health has improved 300%. Uber is going to replace its drivers with self driving cars in the near future and we are helping them do it at our expense. Please find something else FAST!!

Had a passenger cancel a ride about 1 block after I left pickup, and I took them back told them it was the Uber guidelines. They were pissed. But I didn't get f'd on the ride. Had another tell me that she needed a second location after the first and I showed her it was not on the app and I would not be able to go to the second destination. She pleaded that it was 2 blocks away, and I said it's their rules not mine and its for passenger safety (but really mostly for me). ANyway, she added the second destination. Passengers will try to scam you every songle time. You have the right to drop them off on the side of the road as long as it is a safe location.

For God's sake, do NOT buy a new car for doing rideshare. Take a 2 or 3 year used car that runs like new, but heavily discounted. Like they say, the car is instantly 50% depreciated the moment you drove it off the lot (Maybe exaggerated but quite indicative of reality). 2 or 3 yr car is still super reliable but your upfront cost is reduced by at least 10-15k.

Larger marker like New York City don’t really suffer from this issue because there will always be more riders than drivers so the price we get payed out will always be high, vs smaller markets, each driver is in competition with each other driving the amount each driver gets payed down. About that McDonalds.... When I need to get some grub, I turn off, get out of the car and go in to get and eat my food. It allows me to stretch legs and take a quick mental break. I have may have a different perspective: I never eat in the car (keeps it clean and not smelling like random food) and never turn on the app unless I am immediately ready to go. Passengers have told me stories of the crusty, nasty ubers they have been in that smell like funky curry and cigarettes trying to be masked by Febreze, and I know what they are talking about.
