Damn, you two.. or rather Quin makes me feel ancient. Alkaizer comes across as a possible contemporary though. Growing up playing computer games on various Commodore's and then with the rise of Nintendo consoles.. getting my first PC sometime around 1991-2 if memory ain't railing me, well I guess I am comparatively old as F now. Still recall having to type out and input all the key-binds over and over for games and other such nutty stuff to this day and I was just a filthy casual. There were LAN Computer clubs/associations back then that one could join and man was that a trial for a dyslexic kid when what one needed to do to join was fill out ones application on a keyboard that had the keys variously removed or the markings scratched off. That was like around1994-95 and my first experience of multiplayer Warcraft and Warcraft 2 LAN, just prior to the Internet café explosion, takes me back.
@RuecianGray Жыл бұрын
Yeah i don't get it. I am 34, probably close to Quin's age. I grew up playing NES and i was playing Warcraft 2 on windows 95 when i was like 10. He seems to think that stuff is even older than it actually is. It probably feels older to him because he just didn't have that stuff in his house growing up so he though of it the way i would have thought of an Atari. Like some antique, when in reality it was only a few years older than the NES.
@o.w.i.m Жыл бұрын
@@RuecianGray Heh, yeah I guess.. Commodore and Atari though that was ehm like my first experiences of Computers as a Kid. My Grandmother had an older brother who was a bit nutty about tech and specifically computers. The expressions filled to the rafters and hoarder would be accurate to describe that wonderful old fellow. So I caught the bug early on one could say. :) But true, the evolution of computers was really fast so just a few years could make a big difference in different peoples perceptions.

In like 2005 as a child i learned that the best way to balance a game that has classes is to aim to overtune on your class changing patches. Rotate through each class starting from the worst performing one. Basically you get an alpha class immediately that ppl hop to to try out. The next class gets updated and it becomes the alpha. Youve now got 2/X classes that perform very well. All the meta players will hop around while everyone else can enjoy their class taking its turn being the worst class by not that much for one rotation per cycle. I was 15 when i learned this lesson via watching someone else learn the lesson. (On a side note, yall ever been body blocked in a game? Yeah counterstrike figured that shit out a decade ago and ppl still dont even know thats a thing)

I dont like comparing Poe launch to D4 launch. Poe was made in a garage, D4 had thousands of people work on it for years from one of the biggest gaming companies. Even now, would be surprised if GGG has spent more money on poe and the current cost of development of poe2 then D4. Its probably not even close! For poe to get all these new leagues with something like around 20-30 people is crazy.

I enjoyed the wow chat, I was a prog dps in classic, healer in expansion and MT before I quit, with some world firsts. MT has a difficulty about it but not in the way you understand, MT in prog raids, the tank has to be flawless. They have to be flawless every pull, because he needs to let the raid learn and beat the fight. I used to heal a tank who was literally perfect, and had the best gear in the world. He taught me to be flawless. As the main tank healer, similarly, you have to be perfect every pull for the same reason. I'd equate end game healing and MT'ing to speed running, or roguelikes, where you run it til your eyes bleed, and it becomes muscle memory and you could run any fight almost with your monitor turned off. DPS on the other hand is a sweat lord realm, and theres always a few players who are just straight up better than everyone else. Top deeps always deeps. Love this call in content, all these cats are cool. Alk is right but wrong on one thing, of course D4 Season 1 will beat all else, because its all the cut content that is supposed to exist between 80-100, held back for first exp. 2nd Season is when the rubber hits the road, and looking at the main game release, probably gunna be dogshit.

So because his build struggled with it and made it a challenge = a great fight, even though many other classes and build trivialize it. PoE bosses aren't as good because the most optimized OP build trivialize it, even though lots of builds that aren't top tier struggle with them.

saying uber lilith is harder than any boss in path of exile is like saying that is harder to hammer a nail with a banana than it is to unscrew with a toolbox. The statement is right but for the wrong reasons... It would be easy for GGG to say from now on resistance no longer work and bosses have 100x hp of whatever the maximum dps available is. The only game that done Thorns right was Grim Dawn except they called it Retaliation instead of Thorns but, the exact same idea and concept but, they made it work in fact for a while it was one of the strongest builds you could make my miles.
@Vashna Жыл бұрын
I love Grim Dawn and have 100% achievements in that game. I like the Lovecraftian horror elements and the lore, particularly the Greco-Roman mythological themes (like Zeus and company killing his father to take the throne, like the child gods did to C'Thun in Grim Dawn), and ideas they borrowed from other Old World cultures (many seen in the Forgotten Gods expansion.) I also think they did a better job of having a variety of distinct factions at odds with each other so it's more Game of Thrones than black vs. white. Diablo's "Heaven vs. Hell" concept is cliché at this point, and there's no impetus to resolve the "Eternal Conflict" because then they'd have no story left to tell so players can expect there will never be any real resolution in the franchise. Meanwhile, Grim Dawn has the blood cultists of C'thun (their version of Cthulu), the Aetherial invaders (who seem to have their own hierarchy and internal factions), the Three Witch Gods (who have an interesting backstory for how they actually obtained their power, and how their machinations to exploit the player to achieve their own goals), multiple conflicting human factions that tap into military (Black Legion), religious (Kymon's Chosen) and necromantic themes (Order of Death's Vigil), and even a cannibal cult that worships some lone wolf beast god. The great thing about Grim Dawn's lore is that the "history", "backstory" and "tales" of many of these gods and figureheads are hyped up or presented one way to the player, but the truth is usually something different, like in real history. It's not so much plot twists, but a portrayal of how people build religions, cults and ideologies around personas but for their own agendas. Meanwhile, there's very little to sink your teeth into with Diablo lore if you're into predicting plot turns or looking for deeper meanings. Across all 4 games, the only real "surprise" moments were the end of D2 when it's revealed the robed figure interrogating Marius was Baal (not Diablo), in D3 when it's revealed Leah was Aidan and Adria's lovechild and the vessel for Diablo's return (which was borderline cliché and highly predictable), and in D4 when you find out the black wolf was Mephisto. I will say that the one thing Diablo (and most Blizzard games) have above any competitor is insanely awesome cinematics. The final act cinematic with Lilith vs. Inarius was amazing.
@theobell2002 Жыл бұрын
Yes, because Grim Dawn has many abilities and items that add your retaliation damage to your attack. In fact this is required for retaliation builds.

White items you look for are bases for your runewords for cube recipes. Grey items your looking for ethereal for your mercenary or runeword bases. Blue items your looking for dueling items, run speed diadem, 5/6 battle orders helm, jmod. just to name a few. allso crafting materials (i only use amulets). Yellow item your looking for tri res(not poison) frw boots, fcr rings, 5 tornado pelt. ultra rare eth with repair mod gg berserker axe. if D4 had the same system as to D2 and made it more viable to farm certain objects, like killing a certain type of monster or dungeon to increase helm drop rate, or even a potion to find helms. Last Epoch was quite disappointing. Campaign was just walking for ten plus hours, and the endgame was dry and uninspiring. The mana issue is insanely annoying, and since that's their vision, it'll stay annoying. Any boss fights are basically walking left to right waiting for mana to regen.
