There is so much support for homeless people these days. These people you see on the streets tend to be the ones who appreciate nothing and can't behave themselves when they are given accommodation. Many of them aren't even homeless and are begging for money for drugs. I became homeless during the pandemic. I was put in a hotel straight away with a hot meal and a breakfast pack every day then put in a network flat. I became homeless again last year and was put straight into a hostel which is my own bedsit with my own kitchen and bathroom. I am so appreciative of what they gave me but others are not. We even get some free food from time to time. I've seen the same faces for years in Blackpool who are homeless. There is absolutely no need for it and as always, they've got the biggest sob stories all prepared for you.

Whilst the majority are homeless and in desperate need, I'm sure, I'm very hesitant to give those begging on the streets, money. I have unfortunately seen (in various UK cities) people begging or claiming they're homeless, and then they walk off to their new car, or pull out an expensive new phone, or once, even get changed in full view into their smart, clean clothes !! Unbelievable! I'm therefore always wary. I would however buy some food/drink or item of clothing for the person. It's lovely to see someone being caring - good for you 👍

Absolutely, Well stated. These none law abiding people need catching out and bringing before the justice system when committing harm to those of the genuine homeless people that could potentially have become in receipt of given money from the general public that genuinely not mind supporting there own British people within the homeless sector.

Theres quite a lot of real homeless in Blackpool I live just outside Blackpool and have seen myself just how many are sleeping rough. A lot of the homeless sleep in abandoned hotels which are not safe . Good on you for showing such compassion to the most desperate and highlighting a massive, growing problem. The main problem is the lack of hope, opportunity and love in these people’s lives. Many, even after conquering addictions and depression are just not cut out for bad work. 12hr shifts or 5/7, where all their wages are gone on bills before they even get them. A few years of bad work puts you off for good and feels like a life punishment. On the streets you just have your addictions and food and warmth/safety to worry about. Many homeless that I knew, just gave up through a variety of reasons and died young. No one cares. It’s really bad. Unfortunately you can’t force the system on people with addictions. In the grip of the worst depression you can ever imagine. Grief and literally a “I hope I don’t wake up in the morning” thinking. Good luck mate 👍

I have lived in Blackpool for 25 years now and I think it’s a great place especially for places to visit and entertainment if you also include the other close by resorts as well such as st Annes and Cleveleys especially now the season has extended to January but the other half of me yearns for more - a lot still needs to be done and the council are either hardly doing anything or doing it very slowly - I mean the council have been promising a lot but hardly doing much over the years . I’ve been living here and it’s hardly changed much since the 90s and have seen less and less tourists coming and a quarter of people are unemployed here, there is a lot of crime and homeless increasing - it’s like every 200m I walk along the prom I see a homeless person sitting there and they harass people for money - it’s depressing and Its easy to see how tourists feel when they see this and then the town gets a bad reputation . But year after year hardly anything is being done . There’s some very derelict buildings and houses on the backstreets behind the prom . It seems like the government would rather line its own pockets and spend on the wages for the tons of people in the House of Lords most of whom are not really needed (the elite) and foreign aid and immigration than deal with its internal problems . I don’t think it will ever change significantly enough well at least not for the current generation anyway .

There’s a big problem here in Leeds city centre with professional beggers. Go out on the streets at 3 in the morning and then you’ll find the real genuine ones minding their own business, not to say during the day some aren’t genuine either but they’re rarely seen hiding away and very vulnerable. I’ve seen professional beggers get into taxis or on the bus at the end of the day to go home like they’re working a shift. They come into bar outside courtyards hurling abuse if you dont give any money to them, some are very well known to police and nothing is ever done. It’s weeding out the genuine ones, and unfortunately the bad eggs spoil it and the sympathy wears thin because of being abused in the street by the usual con jobs. These people should be banned from city centres completely or better still made to work in homeless shelters and made to look the real homeless in the eyes that they’re cheating of help and sympathy. In the city centre there is an area full of homeless people in tents, next to it an area of expensive city centre flats. It’s not right. A few years ago there was a homeless man in a tunnel next to the train station which thousands must go through every day to get to the train station died in the winter. The councils response, it does not provide a crisis service going out to help unless the temperature is below 0 and that particular night it wasn’t. There is a service run by volunteers which are on Facebook which go out every week onto the streets of the city centre with food and clothes. It’s a start but only a sticky plaster to what’s seriously going wrong in this country

My cousin was homeless in Blackpool for a time. He managed to get a place and turn his life around before succumbing to his demons. I wish I had done more. Point is - homelessness is not born of one problem, one solution or one conclusion. Help if you can.

While I appreciate your helping homeless people, I would never give them cash, food and a hot drink and a cigarette fine.

Jesus ... Michael at 4.00 couldn't look much healthier ! I have worked for 15 years with homeless people and a vast majority lived in hostels, with little or no bills to pay, most on PIP at £1000 per month .... most of which went on drugs. Its definitely not as it appears. If you were truly homeless, wouldn't you go and live in the countryside rather than sitting on lucrative streets ?

Many homeless in blackpool are actually homeless, people however do visit blackpool from miles away especially during the peak season pretend to be homeless beg for money then catch a train back to ehere they come from. Blackpool council house asylym seekers from foreign lands that have contributed nothing, staying in one of Blackpools olderst hotels whilst people born in blackpool homeless sleep on the streets. Disgusting. This hapoens in many areas throughout the u.k

I think people are just beggars. Put there messy cloths on, drive from there mansion in poulton to Blackpool. Sit all day and beg for food and money. That’s basically there day job….. That’s the only reason I don’t give money to people also I don’t use cash anymore I have all my money on my bank card. No cash what so ever. I ride my bike eveyday so I don’t stop to talk to people.
