lemme hit you with another pro tip - after straightening them/ordering them, snip the ends at an angle. Makes it SO MUCH EASIER to push the little cables through their slots. I can never get the end of the wire straight and maybe the cheap connectors i'm using are too tight but it when from frustrating to really easy when I tried it!

Thanks for the video. Wasn't sure about buying these cheap crimpers but your video reassured my purchase.

Just bought this tool. It’s a game changer especially for myself like me that works with cables infrequently. Im now getting my IT company to buy some of these.

I don't think the old style needs to exist anymore. These are an order of magnitude easier to work with.

Oh my gosh. Thank you for posting this video. I spent a couple of hours today wrangling some funky cable, stripping the wires and fitting them to the common RJ-45 connector. I've got a bunch more to do, but will wait until this one arrives.

I have cat 6a cable. Will a "cat 6a" cable fit a cat 6 RJ45 connector or do they make a cat 6a RJ46 connector? Will the crimper tool work or Cat 6a cable? Do I need a cat 6a jack for these or will a regular cat 6 jack work?

This is a much better way of making up or repairing an Ethernet cable. The previous way using the non feed through connectors was absolutely crap.. Too slow, and if you were not careful when entering cables into the connector you would end up with no cable left. I have no probs with the older connectors but I shall be investing in these a much better design. Good clear vid.

If I use an old crimper tool will cut the wires flush like the blue one that you have ??
@Rickmakes
@Rickmakes 4 жыл бұрын
You can crimp it with an older style crimper and cut the wires with a utility knife. I made a video on that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZSuY56Nj95jrM0 It isn't as easy if you have a lot of wires to crimp but if works if you only have a few.
@rayrainer985

I noticed that if you use the other original crimper you have and cut the remaining wire your self with a cutter, it doesn't work. Is there something this crimper does beyond trimming the wires?
@Rickmakes
@Rickmakes 3 жыл бұрын
I did a later video where I use a regular crimper and cut it with a knife. It worked. It is just not as convenient. You can see that video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZSuY56Nj95jrM0

Will this handle cat 6a cable with a pass through connector?
@Rickmakes
@Rickmakes 4 жыл бұрын
This crimper is supposed to work with cat6 connectors and UbiGear also has cat6 passthrough connectors. Unfortunately, I haven't tested it with my crimper. I have everything on cat5e. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Do you have to do that on both sides of the cable
@Rickmakes
@Rickmakes 3 жыл бұрын
Yes. You would do that to make a "patch" cable. If you are doing thing one something like a security camera install, you would do it after you run the wire.

Do you happen to have a link for the extra blades?
@Rickmakes
@Rickmakes 3 жыл бұрын
I messaged them and they said they don't have new blades for sale but it sounds like they can send you a new blade if your is broken. You just need to message them through Amazon's system.

hi rick i bought some non shielded cat 6 pass through connectors from amazon. did exactly what you said. made 3 cables. bought a either net tester and tested all three cables. the tester just counts down which believe means it works both sides count down the same. then when i try to use them only one works as a eithernet cable. any ideas going to recrimp two more ends don't this i nicked them and the test didn't should any shorts. bought these www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07451LPHR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I would make sure you have the proper order. With the clip on the botton it should be orange/stripe, orange, green/stripe, blue, blue/stripe, green, brown/stripe, brown. This is the T-568B wiring order. I would then say to make sure they are crimped all the way but the wires on the passthru connector won't trim until it is crimped. I haven't used that brand of connectors from your link. You might try the Ubigear connectors. I'm using the Unigear crimper and connectors. I haven't tested any of my cables with a tester but I'm not having any trouble with them in use.

@@Rickmakes got the tester didnt seem to work right which i dont know how it couldnt since its just a continuity tester. would i think happen is when i feed the wire through they crossed in the plastic. cause on the next ones i paid close attention and they all worked. happy im able to do this. now i can shorten or make longer my eithernet cables thanks for the help

It's two man IT dept. at work, the boss and I. We did the EZ pass thru. and both of us had bad ends when tested. We used different tools and different plugs and still No's 1&2 were open when tested for both of us. We finally went back the load bar style. The different Ethernet termination videos don't mean too much if they don't show the termination being tested. We have to terminate some maximum length runs, 100 meters some of them (large shop/warehouse). We're both over 60 so our eyes aren't what they used to be so a repeatable terminations is a must. This is our experience with the pass thru style terminations.

Could you not just use a standard crimper and trim the ends with a craft knife or similar rather than buy a new crimper? I'm thinking more of the home occasional user rather than the guy who does this for a living.
@Rickmakes
@Rickmakes 4 жыл бұрын
You could probably do that. I like the crimper because it is quick and easy. I currently use this for home use and I expect it to last me the rest of my life. :)
@rsmith3834

That's what I've been doing. I slide the conductors through a little farther than normal, where there is plenty of outside sheathing inside the crimp on the back of the RJ45, then cut as close as I can and straight with snips, then pull the cable back in slightly so the ends are flush with the end of the connector and the outside sheathing is still inside the connector, then crimp. Poor man's pass-through crimper!
