In my testing, I have been impressed with the range of the U7 Pro comparing to the older AC-pro generation. When MLO is enabled, this will make Wifi 7 have a significant advantage over prior wifi 5/6 access points. The price point makes the U7 Pro a very intriguing value for all it's features / potential features. The halving of throughput for VLAN tagged SSID is a big issue, which I anticipate they will have to resolve. For 6ghz, I have been testing it on an SSID with only the 6ghz radio enabled and have not seen those issues. I did see connectivity/throughput issues when trying to use it with an SSID with 2.4 or 5, and 6ghz enabled.

Multi-Link Operation (MLO) capability to be provided via software update in February! As per the press release. MLO is actually the interesting part of the U7 pro

Thank you for the review.😁 I think I am going to buy two of them and test them out for myself. I't's great that they have greater ramp up time and better stability at longer range. And I hope ubiquiti can fix the other issues through software updates.👌

You might already know but U7 Pro Max is on its way.

Would be nice if you can also compare latency to AP, this is way more important for gaming and even browsing than throughput.

To get real benefit of improved latency in WiFi 7, we need WiFi 7 client. I don’t have one yet. 🥲

Nice review....can you test as well the latency differences between APs, in gaming?
@gametechfocus42956 ай бұрын
We don't play latency dependent game at our home. But I will try putting some info about latency next time. Just based on technical spec, WiFi 7 technology should improve latency compared to prior generations as that's their sales point but for that you need your gaming device to be WiFi 7 compatible.

Terrible roaming on these. I put the second one where the app recognized abd signal and this thing hangs on to the first one lmao. Ubiquiti needs to make less models and work on software lmao.

Agreed. I just go two more. So I have just started testing, but certainly sticky client issue is there, and need to try various manual configurations.

Client device drivers control when they roam, not AP firmware. APs still need to be properly configured; defaults are rarely the optimum.

Is it a generic ubiquity problem? Or just with this model? One of the reasons to install pro grade aps to my house would be seamless roaming. I was under the impression that with the Unifi controller roaming is a forced mechanism based on client rssi
@stevemckim20686 ай бұрын
There’s no way for infrastructure to force a client to pick a specific AP. “Seamless” roaming happens on any controller-based system. Unless you’re running 802.1X authentication, roaming is a quick and simple event. An AP has no idea what the client’s RSSI from the AP is; only the AP’s RSSI from the client. If a network is configured with too high transmitting power, that’s when you get sticky clients. Clients won’t roam because they are still receiving ok from the AP, but the AP can’t hear the client, so the connection becomes poor.

@@rootministrator I think it is generic UniFi issue for not having real automatic RRM. What specific for U7 Pro is it seems to have great range, which result in more "sticky client" than before (depending on which model you come from). But regardless, for most part as you said we need to do manual RRM with UniFi setup to get better roaming performance. 3 parameters we can play with UniFi are AP transmission power, minimum RSSI and minimum data rate control. I haven't come to the conclusion which one is actually better over the other myself. Each have their own pros and cons.
