I bought the very first AC game as an early Christmas gift for myself. I just kinda thought if AC Mirage did the whole going back to basics, I might as well just play the first game again and then play the Ezio Collection. I prefer the original combat system anyway, it was less grindy and not as bloated. A person who goes to school or has a job could still finish it in a reasonable amount of time, unlike now..

One of the major complaints about the franchise since Brotherhood was that they were releasing a new AC game every year like clockwork, which made it similar to the CoD franchise in that there was very little time to innovate between games and they became stale and repetitive. So I like that their solution is to double down and release 2 per year.

This is the success of the MCU's influence on popular culture; not only in film but also in the gaming industry every major franchise feels the need to have an extended "roadmap" of various releases planned for the next 5-10 years, and the priority becomes to stick rigidly to this quota than to actually ensure each release is given the time it deserves as opposed to just focusing exclusively on one game at a time with little regard to the future beyond it.

Making a lot of games isn't inherently a bad thing. RGG studio releases at least 1 new Yakuza/Like a Dragon and its spin-off games every year. Assassin's Creed in the past, especially the Ezio trilogy, was also annual release and everyone was happy about it. But in the case of modern Assassin's Creed, I don't think their production pipeline is strong and disciplined enough to keep the quality consistent for frequent releases anymore. With trust and competence in Ubisoft at an all-time low, I doubt these 10 games will actually come out. Some, if not most of them, will be cancelled, most likely.

At one point Ubi had the most employees in the industry with over 20k, before the layoffs, across over 45 studios, outside of groups like Tencent, Microsoft and Sony acquiring people left and right. They should have had so much more done than this and yet not only did they release a bunch of flops, they only focused on pretty much AC, and Far Cry when given a sparing chance. They could have had so much more. I see a new game under Saber every couple of months with their 4.5k employees. Ubi should have been doing that with other IP. That, and the volume of their delays show how many management is there.

I'm still really disappointed that Jade is a mobile game. We finally get a game set in Ancient China and it's a mobile game that I think is only set in like one city. It could have been part of an Asia themed AC trilogy with maybe Korea being the third location. My hope, at the very least, is that the delay has resulted in graphically overhauled versions of the game for current gen platforms and PC. Its been a while since I looked at the game, but it didn't look like something that couldn't run on the original Switch, and by that same token would be massively underestimating what the Switch 2 can do.

The amount of assasin creed games potentially coming shows the kind of lack of vision that Ubisoft is in at the moment. I really don’t understand where Luke is getting his “Tencent needs to control everything” thinking from. Tencent is a very Chinese company & unlike US companies, Chinese companies operate on a “win-win” mentality. We see this with the Ubisoft deal. The only thing Tencent conditioned their investment on was the making of AC Jade & that both companies work together to create it. It’s a win for Ubisoft because the game is guaranteed to sell well in China & it’s a win for Tencent because their China based studios are working on a Western game. Even studios they own outright are not controlled by & haven’t been “taken over” by Tencent. I’m not trying to defend a corporation, I just see that a lot of people misunderstand China. It’s not like the West where for us to win someone has to lose. It’s culturally very different and there are a lot of things we can learn from how good Chinese businesses operate.
