Oh also, max out your crew ASAP. Get better torpedoes (even though it’s not realistic) and just get better everything from the HQ long before they’re “actually” available. It’s nutty

Oh also one final note: in order to keep your boat from sticking out of the water, have an engineer go to the depth keeping station and he’ll handle it. That’s more for when you have two engineers though

It's amazing! All that tonnage sunk and only one torpedo expended? The BDU are going to just shower you with all the decorations you want, Herr Kaleun! Yeah, I don't see any problem with taking out the escorts either, but of course, doing that doesn't actually add anything to your required tonnage for the mission (only the merchant shipping sunk counts towards the total). Everybody enjoys a bit of deck gun action, but you need to be aware that you only have limited ammunition and you will burn through a lot pretty quickly engaging on the surface. Taking the merchant ships out with the deck gun will become more dangerous for you when the Allies start putting defensive guns on them, so be careful to make sure they are unarmed before you surface the boat. You don't want to get into fire fights on the surface in a u-boat and take damage; they're not the most resilient of vessels when they've got more holes than a Swiss cheese, and it has a significant detrimental effect on the morale and discipline of your crew if you're continually taking battle damage. Your crew will start giving you the hairy eyeball pretty quickly if they believe you don't have their personal safety at heart and the effectiveness of your boat will decrease exponentially as a consequence of that. You will also find that the deck gun will become redundant later on in the war as you get upgraded to better u-boats. Indeed, the Type-XXI u-boats don't pack a deck gun at all, but they do get a larger complement of torpedoes and they are significantly faster through the water than the little Type-VII you are currently commanding. I know it's tempting to admire your handiwork from the periscope, but you do need to remain aware that your periscope will eventually give your position away to the enemy lookouts, so don't sit at periscope depth with your periscope permanently up, especially in flat calm sea conditions in broad daylight. Make your operational observations, launch your torpedoes and then "down periscope". You can always watch the good bits like ships going pop in the outside view.

Wow. That was quick for a new series. I'm really looking forward to this one. Suggestion: Perhaps you can explain why you are taking certain equipment on board, like what is the purpose of having rifles. Not sure if you are interested in providing a little historical context, such as the torpedoes you are using. When were they first used. The problems they presented, etc. One final suggestion. What happens when you visit a neutral port, such as Rotterdam, before it is taken over in the spring of 1940.

LOVE your playstyle (it's like mine, lol) - hell yes, take out the escorts and then wreak havoc. **** One thing I do wish, and I have heard other UBoat players say this: I want "my kills" to effect the war. Hear me out here: Say the UK has 300 warships to start - and you, as the UBoat captain take out 10, then they should have 290 left, and hence, within a year or two there are fewer escorts per convoy. Sure, they would have a "replenishment rate" - and historical events (at one point FDR sent 50 destroyers over as part of Lend-Lease) - but you take my point. Your kills effect how many of what type is available instead of endless spawning based on war year. Hey - loved the conservative use of 1 torp and 3 deck guns kills - that leaves you a "metric f*ck ton" (a real term, I'm sure) of torps for other kills. You could easily walk back in to port with empty tubes and 40k in kills. Loving the new series - please do make more - and don't be shy about making a longer one, or multiple "quickies" - but, hey, it's your channel and I'm just along for the ride..

Thanks so much Steven! I honest think it would be amazing if your hard work was visible on the map showing how it is turning the tide of the war. Being able to see the front lines move in favor or against Germany based on how much tonnage you're sinking. It would certainly give you more of a drive to get out there and put in the work. I was thinking of making longer videos, but it seems like the ~20 minutes ones do the best. Not too long that people get bored and not too quick that there isn't enough entertainment in them. I will have to work on getting up to 30ish minutes videos

I think there was a coalition force of french, Canadian and US ships and others and there were a lot of armed merchant ships so it's not just the royal navy by itself

Hi Rex! I have owned the game since launch pretty much and have been replaying it constantly. So for me I would say its pretty high. Start a campaign and finish it. Take a bit of a break and then come back and play a different campaign.
