I serve on a "German" submarine and then the language "German" should also be an option. It would also be nice if the crew did not just statically do their more or less duty and also manned the important stations and carried out the lieutenant commander's orders. You are basically the girl for everything. So you are more or less alone on the boat. In Silent Hunter 3, things are different. If I am on the bridge, there are also watchmen on the bridge who use binoculars to look out for enemy ships and report. As for the sea state when underway...the submarine sails calmly through the sea despite the waves. A rocking effect for the boat would make the journey more realistic. In the command center, the map is provided with grid squares but without any designations of the grid squares. And what about awards and medals? No submarine front clasp, no Iron Cross, etc.? The ports all look the same, no matter where I dock. And what's going on in the ports? Corona? Curfew? Looks deserted. No shipping, no people and harbors without seagulls? I noticed that right at the beginning in the submarine bunker. A little more life would be nice. Just a few things that I noticed, but what bothers me most is that English is spoken on a German submarine. That's just not acceptable.Best wishes and good hunting, you heaven hounds.

I agree on the crew thing, that is where the multiplayer picks up. Nothing is automated, orders can be issued, but things need doing for the most part. I imagine alot of things missing you mention may be added over time. A rocking effect would be awesome, however that could then bring out the motion sickness in people which is why I don't think they will go in that direction. I'd love some kind of medal system though 😁

I'll be honest, I haven't been back to it. Its a great game if you have some buddies to play with, well priced for the content within. There has been content added also with more on the way which I will go back to and have a look at soon 😁

@@silver-tongued_devil thanks, I appreciate that. I like submarine warfare and so on, but it's been a while since I played a sub game other than the mini game in ff7.. With realistic controls and so on, it sounds like it'd be worth a twenty. Maybe I'll catch it on a sale day. However, I am what they call a "Billy no-mates" when it comes to VR.

Is there a Multiplayer related reason that you aren't setting to auto-course and then using the rudder wheel to assign a course number and then firing torpedoes outside the range/degree of "dead ahead"?

They only auto coursing I remember is the fast travel stuff if I'm honest. Also bear in mind that this stream was only with the tutorial and a couple of missions under my belt. There are some things you have to do more manually in multiplayer 😁

@@silver-tongued_devilYea like I said I haven't tested MP yet so I have no idea if the Auto-Course thing works the same in MP...but I can tell you for SURE that in SP, you flip the switch above the rudder wheel to Auto Course and THEN the wheel acts like a course selector, where instead of reading the current course heading, you tell it what course heading to go to and the rudder will just go in that direction until you get to that heading.

This seems far more arcade-y than the full U-Boat on PC. The sonar pings in the first mission where none of the vessels present have sonar - would have annoyed the hell out of me and broken any immersion. Pleased to see the Red Dwarf reference to changing the bulb anyway.

Ha, honestley I just assumed UBoat has sonar of some description. Interested to know how it works on the PC without a ping for ranging enemy? Also well spotted, me and Mr Hollland are big red dwarf fans 😁

@@silver-tongued_devil During WWII Submarines didnt have active sonar, (although the ships hunting them did, eventually), so in the PC version you have to do it the "right" way: Detect ships using the hydrophones, then when in range, you use the periscope and the target ID book - literally a book of allied ship types - to identify the target type. By knowing your target and its size in your periscope, you can work out how far away it is using the distance markings on the 'scope. You then watch how quickly it is moving across the reticle to calculate its speed - there is a virtual stopwatch for this, and a mechanical torpedo computer thats modelled in the game for you to enter target bearing, range and speed. There is also the option to ask one of the AI crew to do this but they take a long time to come up with a target solution. It also takes far longer to reload torpedoes and that process makes a lot of noise which enemy ships can hear if equipped with their own hydrophones. Makes everything a lot slower and more tense, although for a mutliplayer title I can see why they would make things a bit quicker.

This all actually sounds fantastic. Its this level of detail that appeals to me. The mass market though... I can only hope that one day it comes to standalone 😁
