I was also surprised. But here in Switzerland people often let children to do sports without shoes, even the long jump (!). Maybe because of the correct development of the foot when they are growing. They all wear spikes when they get older, of course. Btw, the barefoot boy is now one of the best in Switzerland in Decathlon and some others from this run belong to the best ones in Europe, currently U18 category.
