The reason the Orochi isn't immune to the Sleep status is actually because in the original myth the monster is a reference to, the hero got it drunk on sake until it passed out and then killed it in its sleep. A sword that splits the clouds? A hero named Susanoo? Getting a dragon drunk on sake? That must be the legend that inspired the Serpent at Gaia Rock in Golden Sun 2! In Golden Sun: The Lost Age, Susa gives the Serpent Dragonsbane to weaken it. Your party defeats the Serpent and Susa deals the finishing blow. Afterwards, you can find the Cloud Brand at the place where the Serpent's tail rested.

For Solo runs yes but that's the only time its useful else it gives out a permanent confusion effect making it impossible to control him/her in battles. as for the Golden Claws it still best to OPEN the chests even on the remakes on the 2nd onwards floors BEFORE removing those from the Pyramid and with the Golden Claws removed I believe it makes the ENTIRE pyramid useless for mages since they can't use spells both DURING battle or OUT of it since on the remakes with those claw's removed healing magic won't even work OUT of battles.

Shame about that golden claw. Correct But in the remakes the battles still occur on EVERY floor of the Pyramid once you remove the golden Claws so BEFORE getting those get ALL the chests from the 2nd FLOOR onwards and open those else even the MAX 99 herbs you can carry won't be enough even at lv 60+ I'll end up using more then 99 of them. So a note about the stat system in this game: each time you level, the game checks your stats against your expected class average. If your stat is below that average, it will raise the stat to that average plus or minus a few points. If your stat is above that average, you’ll just have to wait another level. The exception to this is HP/MP, which are determined by doubling your Vitality and Intelligence respectively, plus or minus a few points. If your class is not a natural casting class, your MP gain is always zero. The original game seems to have a glitch where HP/MP won’t increase unless the stat it’s tied to also increases that level, but given time things should even out. That said, since Intelligence and Vitality really don’t do anything other than determine HP/MP, it’s basically pointless to raise them with seeds since you’ll have to wait longer to recoup your HP/MP gains. If you really want to be a munchkin you should wait until you can’t level up anymore before using seeds, but by that point you’re not going to face anything in this game that will challenge you enough to warrant it.
@UCanBeatVideoGames
@UCanBeatVideoGames Жыл бұрын
Exactly true. This really matters with class changes, too. if you change class to something similar, you'll get minimal gains in the overlapping stats until you level up for a while.

Awesome video as usual. There is a few things you mentioned that got me a little curious. First was your Demonite encounter. You said to run from it because of sacrifice and beat/defeat magic. Every time I encounter them and they cast sacrifice or beat/defeat it always says not enough MP. I believe that goes for the explodet spell as well with the Mini Demon. Next is the golden claw. True enough for the quick gold, however I keep the golden claw. Since I enjoy playing JRPG's without taking advantage of bugs in the games, I will use the golden claw for quicker level ups. When I don't need it, I return to Alihan and put it in the vault until next time. So, unlike most, I much prefer the Golden Claw curse in the original format. However, I do like the remakes addition of more claws to choose from. Finally, the bounce/robmagic phenomenon. I discovered this one by luck. It was on the King Tortragon. I had my wizard cast rob magic but the King Tortragon cast bounce before it was my wizard's turn. I observed what happened. It seems the wizard tried to take MP from himself for a second but then his MP more than doubled. Not sure if this would be considered a bug or if DW3 simply goes haywire not knowing how to handle that particular routine. ***** WARNING! WARNING! EXTREME INSANITY AHEAD ***** You still here, OK. Back to the golden claw. I had to laugh when you mentioned it would be nuts to keep the golden claw equipped for the rest of the game, because I did just that one time. It was indeed crazy. I remember that before I even got to Dharma my characters levels were already in their thirties. By the time I got to the dark world the levels were over seventy and I had over 400,000 gold. Needless to say Zoma didn't stand a chance by the time I got to him. Oh yeah, in case your wondering, no I didn't use outside or return either. Now if you'll excuse me, you have inspired me to dust off my NES and DW3 game and play thru it again. I may even re-live the madness and do the complete golden claw run again😎

Putting up with a goof-off is worth it because you can just make them a sage. Plus the book of satori means you can have 2 sages. Also you need the merchant for the town building quest. When I play I start with a soldier a priest a fighter and a goof-off. Then at 20 I convert the priest to a wizard. The goofoff to sage 1 and the fighter to sage 2. You retain about 50% of your previous stats after a class change so a fighters agility comes in handy to go first more. The soldiers hit points are a nice boost and the extra mp a wizard earns each level stacks fast.

It's actually a better weapon for hunting metal slimes and metal babbles because of that critical hit chance, since normal attacks are unlikely to land in the first place against those. "High risk, high reward" is not at all a cursed property, especially not in a game where you have four active party members.

@@veghesther3204 Golden Sun is a completely different game and that demon axe is a completely different weapon. This is like if I was talking about how a rapier is a decent early-midgame sword in some game and you said "Yeah but in the first Final Fantasy the rapier is the starting area sword and it's pretty weak".

@@RoninCatholic I agree that it is useful for Metal Babble hunting, but being inconsistent like that means it is bad for boss fights. Just like the Golden Claw, since it has an undocumented effect, you could say it's kinda cursed like how UCBVG referred to the Golden Claw. I'll also offer the Hela Hammer from Dragon Quest VIII as evidence, which has almost the same properties - it either misses or crits 50/50 and it IS 100% cursed. Again, fantastic for Metal Babble hunting, but definitely cursed. That blows your "High risk, high reward" argument out of the water.

One tip is that the magic key also opens the thief key's doors. Also, as you said, the final key opens all 3, but I find it jarring to see you still using the thief key, haha.

Watching this game again really does remind me that it seems to be at a much slower pace. And I didn't use money cheats or metal slime cheats or the parry trick, nor was I as good as UCBVG, so I did even more grinding to level up and obtain equipment as I went along. It felt like a slog at times, even though overall the game is great. This is why I liked Dragon Warrior IV so much more. I didn't spend much time grinding, and the story was constantly changing in the beginning so the engagement level was much greater. Progression felt more natural and balanced. Dragon Warrior IV is likely my favorite video game of all time (the NES original) and I still cherish my physical in-box copy with maps/manuals to this day. I replay this game on average once a year, although given my limited time I do hex edit my saves to increase experience/gold so I can just enjoy the game and progress through it without interruption. And this is fine, as I originally beat this game when no internet existed or help whatsoever when I was 12 and found/completed everything on my own. Still feels like one of my greatest achievements. I can't wait for the UCBVG series on this game.

So I like to go (kinda) magic heavy in this game. My party is Hero, Fighter, Pilgrim, Wizard. And yes, the poison needle is SOOOO good for the Wizard because the instant kill chance is pretty high. Man, I love this game so much. One of my all time favorites. I might have to go through this again after watching this.

Same for me, although when I've replayed it in later years, I often turn my Fighter into a Sage for even more magic, while still having decent physical stats until he learns some spells/gets some MP. Probably far from optimal, but it's a blast for me. :D

I'm playing the mobile version and loving it. Though there are some notable differences...different treasure chests, etc. Instead of the water blaster, that random kid sequence in the town gets you Ortega's Helmet! Which is better than the iron mask for the hero...glad I didn't skip over that seemingly optional part.

Another great part in the saga! You make it such a smooth ride, it's easy to get comfortable and watch for hours. One tiny thing, whenever there's secret things like the hidden staircase in the pyramid, it'd be nice if you could at least say in the voice over how you were supposed to find it.

One of the things the remakes do better is the golden claw only gives you the high encounter rate in the pyramid, if you get it out of there you just have a badass fighter weapon.

Funny thing about Demonites, they have zero MP. This means that none of the spells they cast will work. If I'm remembering right, Errol's souls is freed after you lift Olivia's curse; at least I know it is in the remakes(Checking with him on the ship will reveal that he died with a smile on his face). I'm not sure about the original NES version, mostly because it's been many years since I've played it and it's no longer in my possession. The remakes did thankfully fix the vitality and intelligence seed issues that original has. It will add them into the equation when you level up(Not relevant here, but a little trivia for those who are curious about playing the later versions). Awesome job on beating Baramos at those levels!

So, I always played this with the classic setup of Warrior, Hero, Pilgrim, and Wizard. It's super safe and reliable, but I still enjoy that security. Fighters, Merchants, and Thieves (in the remakes) are much more specialized and difficult to handle at various points, so I should do a run with those someday soon. Still, I think the best way to fight Baramos is with copious amounts of ice and fire spells.

14:30 Why sell the Golden Claw tho? Having it makes grinding WAY quicker. Can get to level 25 or so just by fighting ocean enemies outside of Aliahan for about 1-2 hours. But then again, there's the metal slime manip too, forgot about that.

Well just grinding from like lv 15 to lv 40+ for all the White or Black Mage spells should give you enough to buy 2 of those Zombie swords besides unless you can KILL the enemies after you take the Golden Claw in 1 hit and NOT use the full 99 herbs in the remakes I don't recommend ever removing the Golden Claws even with 3x Sages unless they are ALL at lv 60+ WITH the Zombie Slasher equipped.

@@autobotstarscream765 Much sense as that makes, its generally faster to just grab the thunder staff and take on enemies in the ocean with it while taking advantage of the higher encounter rate. In about a half hour of grinding you'll have the 20k necessary for the slashers anyways.

I know in the remakes, at least, Intelligence and Vitality seeds are good _if you're level 1 when you eat them_ because your HP and MP gains going from Level 1 to Level 2 specifically are equal to your Vitality and Intelligence stats respectively, and thereafter they more or less level off. So stockpile those for right after changing into whatever the final class is for the character! Also, the longer you hold off on changing class, the higher your stats will be before getting halved. Average stat gains per level are more than 2, so each level up past 20 adds typically more than +1 to the starting stats of your character at his new level 1 class. I tend to try to hold off until around level 30 before changing a spellcaster like a wizard or a pilgrim in particular, trying to get as many of their late game spells as possible before changing to something else. I also usually chain together two or three class changes per hero on a given playthrough.
@veghesther3204
@veghesther3204 Жыл бұрын
I do that anyways since the FINAL spells for the 3 mages types White Black and Sage are around lv 40 to 41 anyways but the classes that are NOT the Sage should still job class change once they get their FINAL spells. But since BOTH Sage and Fighter take the LONGEST to lv up once you have A Sage with all the white/magic spells I immediately turned them into lv 1 Thieves then used 3x Thieves for the rest of the game including the post game post dungeon.

The cloak of evasion is extremely useful during boss troll fight, as he takes your defense to zero so other armor means little anyway. Now listen, don't throw away vitality or int. seeds. What do you do with them other than sell them? use them just before a class change, as you lose half your stats during the change, but now you're lv.1 again. So it's useful in that situation. Also INT seeds are fine for solders or fighters as they have no MP anyway :)
