What a neat interview. Would love to have him in my class! Leftie or rightie, who cares. He's a great guy, humble gentleman, and extremely intelligent. Can't think of too many younger artists with those qualities. He's the real deal.

Roger McGuinn should be doing musicians-songwriters workshops. You can't expect college kids, many who are not musicians, or were not even alive during the 60's, to have the same enthusiasm that some of the older commentors on here would. I'm 62and was a big Byrds fan, but there's a lot of wonderfully talented musicians. Many of them are young and will never get the opportunity to be (marketed) to such a grand scale as someone like Roger McGuinn or the Byrds were back in the 60's. Reality.

I have seen him twice in Denver at Swallow Hill. Eight Miles High baby! He does and amazing rendition with just him and his guitar. One of my music heroes.

Saw him play solo in Sydney back in 2001. Roger told many stories from the 60's and 70's featuring The Beatles, Dylan and the many singer-songwritters from Laurel Canyon, LA. A really nice man too.

You are correct. There's a lot of good music that's written today. Not everything that's good gets marketed. There's a lot of fine musicians and song writers that never get the oportunity to be marketed like a lot of these bands were back in the 60's. People think it doesn't exist just because (they) haven't heard it.

It's a Martin D-7 guitar, designed by Roger. It has a high G string added to mimic a 12-string guitar, while being easier to play. The high G string is the one between the G and B strings.

That was fucking far out session with Roger McGuinn. Finally, something worth something on You Tube. Far fucking out, man. If I could smoke grass with out massive paranoia, I might smoke some right now. I saw McGuinn in Meriden, CT a few years ago and he was outa sight. Fucking groovy spot from Berkeley, man. Thanks for putting it on.

(cont)......I saw Roger in London last year at The Cadogan Hall..it was great! But I couldn't help thinking : wouldn't it be marvellous if the three remaining original Byrds (Roger Mc, David C.,Chris H.) put aside any differences and did some concerts and played some of those great tracks off the first five albums;particularly Younger than Yesterday. Here in the UK I'm sure they could fill The Albert Hall. ..... ps Can't UCBerkeley edit this video and remove the 'micophone passing' pauses?

Not directly related to Roger or his music, but I used to love to go to Brennan's in Berkeley when going to sporting or music events. They closed after not being able to afford their rent.

Wow, you could've heard a pin drop when the legendary Roger McGuinn was "introduced", the equivalent of the crowd reaction following Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. I understand perfectly why Professor BlandanBoorish's colleague's don't return his emails. Poor Roger.

Roger and the Byrds were very activist in their relationship to Nashville and the commercial country music scene. He could have mentioned "Drug Store, Truck Drivin' Man" as an example.

Even with the ease of the internet, most young people today are incredibly clueless. As college kids in the 70's we were VERY aware of all aspects of history and music. We listened to the radio, talked with other people, read books and sought out all kinds of music. We were not clueless

Fantastic!!! I wish the two righties... RM and Hillman... could make peace with the Anarchist .... Crosby. The chemistry was still great back in '90 last time the three performed together. Hard to believe it has been 20 years!

That was a very enjoyable, unplanned I hour 8' when I should've been working! The students' questions were excellent, covering all the interesting issues in his life esp. technology and his career with The Chad Mitchell Trio etc (see mcd220 's upload). I'd like to know more about The Byrds success in not only South America - did they tour in non-English speaking countries? - but the rest of the world too, and was RM still getting the same miniscule royalties wherever Byrds records were sold?

JUst saw this. This is so painful to listen to the host, in all his ignorance. Kudos for bringing Roger in , but, LORRRRRRD. Since I am older, the impact of Roger McGuinn paired with Dylan's music was enormous, and still affects me today. It's so disappointing to hear one kid ask Roger's opinion of the new Ipad.....Jeeeeezzzz.

Crosby is the only one to give a fuck about. Look at McGuinns face when Crosby pleas in the live segment in '67 to stop the wars and that the Kennedy assasinations are to be looked at again.. he was the anithesis to McGuinns slick hollywood bs.

WTF? He is a super privledged child (son of military) and attended UC to do acid trials and was raised in the thick of entertainment. This is not coincidence. He's is no hero or should you think he's important. Status is a myth and influence you decide. Music yes resonates but the person holds no power more than you he was just hip to how to use that power we all have. Dont'dumb yourself down anymore.

OMG HE HELD UP A COLUMBIA BOX SET AS A SALESMAN? WTF? So now the old Shindig regulars kiddie LSD band has to have help from a square to sell? The music industy is the same as it ever was, and it's simply thought out to levels you cannot imagine to pacify your children
