Cappadocia is full of stunning landscapes. This one from Uchisar Castle, however, is unlike any other. Uchisar Castle has been called “one of the largest and multi-storey natural skyscrapers in the world”. Arriving in Uchisar in the morning of a January day, we were able to ascend the castle with a relatively cold temperature, and also take advantage of the magic that a lower, grazing light gives to the landscape. From above, both the "fairy chimneys" immediately below the castle, as well as those that extend further away, and the other bizarre forms of erosion that dot this extraordinary region, appeared to us suffused with this magical light. Overall, the visit to the castle remains among the most lasting memories of Cappadocia for us.
It serves as the main attraction in Uchisar, but the true highlight isn't solely the castle; rather, it's the delightful elderly couple residing within one of its caves, crafting the finest Turkish gözleme. The old man told us , he was born in this cave house and he spent his childhood here. Now they make beautiful handicraft.
