This is the ultra lightweight bike Ollie rode at the Taiwan KOM Challenge 2023. The frame is the super light carbon TRIGON AR01, which he paired with the ROTOR 2INpower SL dual-sided power meter and 40mm carbon Drive wheels from Elitewheels. He takes you through the full bike specs, does a freehub soundcheck and weighs this UCI illegal set-up!

Agree, the only downside I have with them is that after ordering via the official shop at Ali, they force you to upgrade to expensive shipping because the standard shipping (they themselves offer in the shop) is not available (?!). And after that, they say they cannot deliver in the provided timeframe and say you have to extend. Feels a little scammy to be honest.

I'm happy to hear Ollie say non pro ride could be better off using larger disc rotors. I have a hybrid which I have had for a number of years. It originally had 160/160mm rotors. I did change the brakes not long after I got my hybrid. When I did change the brakes I went for 180/160mm rotors. When I recently changed the brake again. I still went for the 180/160mm rotors. I currently have Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres in 32mm. I have had no issues with stopping on this tyre and brake set up.

Another upvote for larger rotors on road bikes here. But for me it's stopping power. While bike touring I have an extra 25kg on my bike and I am bombing down mountains up to 90kph with 38mm slick tyres. In those cases I could to with significantly more stopping power. Why do we reserve this for mountain bikes which have less grip and are going slower?

#ASKGCNTECH Can installing tubes into a currently tubeless setup be a long term option? I have ridden a current gravel tire and wheel setup as tubeless for about 3 years but the TWI still shows lots of available tread remaining on the tires. I recently removed the tires from the wheels to clean out the old sealant but now they will not reseat even though I removed a lot of sealant and the bead seems clean. After many attempts to remount the tire I am now consider just installing tubes. I know installing a tube works as a puncture repair to get back home. 3:00 - it probably makes sense in the mountains - but isn't MvdP a guy who rides (and wins) on 140mm rotors?

@@MaximEck96 I wouldn't be surprised if it was the case in cyclocross. I do have 160mm and 203mm rotors - the former (paired with metallic pads) are on the winter wheels. I didn't notice a significant difference in wearing rates between them.
@MaximEck96
@MaximEck96 7 ай бұрын
@@PrzemyslawSliwinski Maybe you also tent to ride slower, with more anticipation in winter time due to slipery roads/paths thus using less the brakes. My commuting bike has the original rotor and pads that look brand new after 10'000km whereas I had to change 2 times the pads and once the rotor on the roadbike.

Aero dimples? Impressive! I'd love to see these tested in a wind tunnel with colored smoke, to see if they perform as described by the maker. I'd be quite disappointed if instead they are aero marketing bullshit... which I half expect. Please test!

Bigger rotors meh....unless you a very large person flying down massive hills there's little need for 180mm rotors. I even ran 140 front and rear and I'm living in the hills at 86 kgs. I'm back to 160 front it's more than enough.i have 180 front 160 rear on my XC MTB purely down to the extra bike weight

Aero dimples are bs. At the Reynolds numbers of the slow fluid velocities of cycling they will need to be much larger to trip the air. See Ganna’s hour record bike. There’s a reason they had to make that bike out of aluminum.

Why such a heavy bike for a KOM ride? Why not go rim brakes and really get the marginal gains optimised? Im a bike mechanic too. Disc is too much faff to travel with for zero gains on road race bikes. Disc for dirt. Rim for road.

I looked up the cost, it is too expensive for a non mainstream brand. But I guess they are trying to break into the market by getting GCN to advertise.

Trigon are an established manufacturer who have made frames for OEM Western brands who have started making their own. They have the knowledge and local pedigree but have only just started selling to Western markets, along with Winspace and Yeoleo.

@@matt_acton-varian I know all that, plus the fact that they also produce for two high end brands begins with the letter P. TBH my point is that bike brands, along with everything else, are charging ridiculous prices since COVID because..they can and people are paying for it. 2024 will be interesting, with wiggle/chainreaction, as well as a prominent USA distributor all going south.. market may be crashing.

i really effing hate it when people say "oh this manufacturer makes bikes for others but i cant tell you or sth along those lines" like eff me, 1. its not giving us any extra confidence regarding the qualiy, 2. if it really is of such high quality, why use other bike brands that you manufacture for to promote your own brand instead of making a name for yourself (by whatever means possible), sides no one can verify that statement, so using somethng that may or may not be true to promote a brand and its product that may or may not be good just sounds like a effing scam
