Johnny was just good enough of an actor to become the greatest talkshow host ever.

Silly and contrived...but thank you for the upload. I really like the actors.

Anne Francis is wonderful as usual and that Johnny wasn’t a bad actor. It’s a good thing he wasn’t a little better or we really would have missed out.

A mere two years later, he's hosting the show that would catapult him into worldwide and permanent fame. Amazing.

I didn’t know what to expect from this presentation. But, it’s surprisingly funny & cute. The acting was good & Johnny was pretty good too!

It's hard to believe Johnny Carson was a national institution for thirty years, the culture has changed so much.
@waldolydecker8118 Жыл бұрын
Carson found his niche in "Tonight." He wasn't nearly as good in at least a half dozen other shows I've seen him in. He's mediocre here as well; but then, so is the script.

Wow! What a find. I had no idea that Carson ever appeared in scripted programs. I wonder if Jack Parr watched this?
@fromthesidelines8 ай бұрын
Johnny filled in for Jack as early as 1958.

Does anyone who know the great voices of yesterday, know who voiced the YMCA PSA around 59:15? It does sound like Art Hannes V/O'd the "Twilight Zone" promo (having heard his voice on so many 1960-62 "Yours Truly, Johnny Dollars").

Thanks for posting. I had no idea that Johnny did this. He was not known for his scripted roles.

He also appeared in another "STEEL HOUR" production that spring: "The Girl in the Gold Bathtub" [May 4, 1960], opposite Jessie Royce Landis and Marisa Pavan.
I'm surprised that Johnny never played at least some clips from this performance on the Tonight Show some time...maybe a rights issue...it surely would have been interesting especially in the 80s to see a very young Carson...

This was an interesting idea, but poorly executed. The character motivations and development don't make much sense, all leading to an ending that doesn't seem to follow. Great seeing this rarity anyway, especially for the actors in it!
@tnate60043 жыл бұрын
The end seemed contrived. Kenny should have ended up with Rosalinda and Ann should have ended up with sexy Lou.
