I loved that Thierry said "Mourinho" just because it showcases his true character. Because he's French, silky, wore gloves when he played, people think he didn't have a hard edge, but you needed to have one when he played, the opposition would physically target the oppositions most dangerous player and he was the most dangerous player in the league.

You always want another team to semi support in the big title matchups when you're watching with mates (mainly so you can banter Chelsea/Man U fans), even though I'll only ever support one team. I just liked them because they were good to watch but I didn't appreciate how gangster Thierry was until many years afterwards when I've seen him interviewed etc.

He had a lot of respect for the physical part of the game, as did other players that came to Arsenal from abroad in the late 90s. Bergkamp was a magician but he had that nasty streak in him as well - he would not be bullied

@@wriches makes sense. I didn't know as much at the time as I only ever followed the Hammers, other teams I watched and appreciated but never followed properly. I saw a really good podcast where he was interviewed by his NY Redbulls teammates. The reason it was interesting is because it became clear that he was the guy setting standards when he first got to the club & driving toughness... I would've assumed he just went there to pick up a paycheck and take it easy as an older player, that's when I KNEW he must've had the DAWGGG in him his whole career.
