I bought something similar to this year's ago to go with something called a a grilliput or something like that, you've just jogged my memory, I had to go and mooch to find it 😂 still in it's box never used, they are great for keeping fires of the ground, especially if you remember you have one 🤦😂

Certainly better constructed than the folding vegetable steamer baskets we used before building a firepit for the troops in our covered carport. For the right money, I may grab one of these. I agree that the permanently attached studs could be a problem. I think there will be multiple DIY solutions for that small issue. Thank you for the demo.

@@randy-9842 No problem at all. The veggie-steamer basket turned firewood holder is an old idea, no one person may lay claim to that. We are all blessed that there are a few Y/T channels where we can have a "meeting of the minds" to showcase, discuss, and suggest improvements to old and new ideas. That is what it is all about.

@@NewHampshireJack I honestly hadn't seen a portable firepit with [edit to spell "iwth" correctly !! sheesh! ] this design before, but that's not exactly my normal venue. It is ingenious. As to your last two sentences I'd like to add a hearty and very appreciative AMEN to that. I cherish the community on these channels and I must say that Andy fits the bill perfectly! Have a great week Jack and a very Merry Christmas!

Hi Andy and Wendy 😊 season's greetings I hope your both doing well. The firepit looks useful , and I like the griddle you used. Another piece of great kit to add to what must be now a considerable selection of bushcraft gear, lol, at least it gives you flexibility , and choices of what you pack. Thanks for the video, stay safe, best wishe's to you all, Stuart and Megan UK.

Hey, mate! I love the fold up grill & I broke mine out just the other day. The fire bowl is interesting & looks like someone decided to rename a steamer basket. My steamer basket looks just like that but the legs are removable. Hmmm, now that I think about it, that might make for a pretty good hack video. Thanks for sharing, mate!

Thanks mate! Yea I’m going to be doing a follow up video comparing the two! The UCO Is slightly heavier duty than the strainer/steamer but we will see what happens! Let me know how your experiment goes! Best wishes brother 👍🏻👍🏻😎

Very interesting, Andy. I like the UCO candle lanterns and find them well made. Your idea to use removable feet or studs is absolutely spot on, imo. It actually looks a lot like my kitchen folding steamer! The steamer is about the same size, has "tulip petals" that open and close up like the UCO, has lots of holes for steam (air / ash / falling embers) and is stainless steel at roughly half the price. I wonder if it would hold up to an actual wood burning fire? The UCO might well be more rugged and would not need an ash or ember catching pan underneath. I like the idea of using it as a wind break too!! THANKS a bunch Andy! ps: I like that folding grill you have too! Sweet!

Thank you mate! Yes I’m going to do a follow up video doing a vs … UCO Vs strainer/steamer type item, so I guess we’ll see if they have any differences! I think I’ll be replacing the fixed studs with screw in bolts, a future mod. Hope your doing well my friend 👍🏻👍🏻😎 very best wishes

I just bought one of these Fire Bowls, and I think I have that grill, mine might be smaller though, I will have to test it. If so I will buy a bigger one. As for the pot, I love Zebra pots and billies. They are so well made. Good video, straight and to the point. You could remove the legs and then install bolts. I am thinking about doing that.Or cutting some closed cell foam and punching holes in that to use on the bottom of the fire bowl to protect the legs.

Excellent! I hope you enjoy yours! Yes I’m going to replace the studs with bolts and use wing nuts for easy on/off packing away, might add a couple of spares in my kit too just in case I drop or lose one. Thanks for your watching and taking the time to comment my friend I appreciate it! Best wishes 👍🏻👍🏻😎

Yep, saw off them studs (maybe you could weld nuts on to screw the legs back on. OR, Use the trangia as the stove and the fire pit as wind break and solar fire starter, I bet it will focus the sun when new.
@MadDogSurvival
@MadDogSurvival Жыл бұрын
Hello mate 👍🏻… yes I think drilling the studs out and replacing with a screwable alternative is the way to go. Might be a bit thin for me to weld (mma) but I’ll find a way lol…. I like the idea of the solar lighter reflector when new or polished! Like a big version of the type with central spring to hold tinder 🤔🤔…. Maybe a good experiment? ….. hope you’re well and wishing you a good weekend 👍🏻👍🏻😎
