We use to have the old uconnect 8.4 without nav and never had a problem with it. Then me and my dad stepped up to a rebel GT with uconnect 5 and unfortunately having problems with it. Can’t change radio stations or save presets on the touch screen. When we first got it, system was fine and everything worked. Got 145 miles on it now and got to manually search radio stations to switch the station. Taking it to the dealer soon but hopefully it can be fixed. I know its a newer system so giving it a chance but the TRX owners are also having problems with their uconnect 5. I looked the issue up and it seems to be a common issue. Other than that love the truck though, feels like im riding in a spaceship just wish they would test the software a little more before putting them in these expensive trucks.

I'm waiting for my custom order 2022 Rebel to be delivered (should be next week). As for all the people telling you to slow down- I have no clue what they're going on about. You talk at a perfectly acceptable speed (at least to someone from the northeast US). No reason we all have to suffer just because they don't have a good command of their own language. Nothing's more annoying than watching a video where it takes someone forever just to get the point across. Would they rather the video be an hour long🤣?

Android Auto is a bit weird with this uConnect 5 system.. the bottom widget would be for the actual uConnect screen and not adding additional info for Android Auto. It would be for things like climate controls, gauges etc

But when it goes to full screen media it shows the album art. Is there a setting for that, also, does the navigation show the speed limit sign in home mode or only in full screen? The one thing I didn't see and I can't find an answer anywhere is how to adjust the display brightness nighttime. When you select manual mode the daytime brightness adjuster lights up and is able to be adjusted manually. However the nighttime mode is still greyed out and unable to be adjusted. Kind of annoying trying to turn the brightness for the screen down during night

Bluetooth devices can't just randomly connect without the user connecting it through the screen. If a phone is already connected you can set connection priority or remove additional devices but there's no way to password protect future connections

Nice truck, I was just in a 2024 Sport a few days ago! The screen doesn't support 3rd party apps being installed but I believe onX maps works with Apple CarPlay and they're in the process of working on Android Auto compatibility

Awesome video. Adding a custom page with CarPlay on the top of the split screen and whatever else you want at the bottom, for me climate and heated seats/steering, works once after it’s configured and then crashes meaning CarPlay no longer connects until the screen is reset. I really like the idea of having both CarPlay combined with standard truck features on a custom page but sadly this does work for me.

Thanks! You can try doing a system update but if it's up to date there could be an issue with the screen itself. Easy tries before you take it in: 1. System update 2. Factory reset

Two things. . . 1) the screen always seems to be in dark mode and 2) I don't get any traffic data/updates/warnings. Is that normal for the Ram? I've heard a few people in forums talking about their uConnect 5 screens in their 2022 Ram's occasionally blank out but it's not a normal complaint from people. A blank screen sometimes comes from early release updates so if that's a concern, don't update to the latest until you check forums to see what issues people may be having

The list is too long to go through but it can easily be found on say a 5th gen Ram forum, specifically the Uconnect 5 12” threads. I get that tech problems aren’t just relegated to Ram but I’ve owned a number of vehicles and none of them had nearly the issues that Uconnect has. Apple CarPlay not working/Screen just going black/Screen touches causing interference with the speakers/Climate control digital buttons disappearing/voice control audio muddled randomly and that’s just the beginning.

Great video and thanks. I just traded my 2020 Limited for a 2022 Limited. Other than the wireless Android Auto/CarPlay I like the old system way better. The Uconnect 5 has just looks cheap in the light setting and the Navigation map looks horrible in the dark setting. It’s really strange. I don’t see a way to change the map appearance. Of course I am an Android user so the Android Auto half screen map is a waste of a 12 inch screen. I sorta want my old truck back.

Is Apple CarPlay enabled on the phone? Go to Settings --> General --> CarPlay and then select your vehicle. Make sure that CarPlay is checked off. If it is, then the easiest thing to do would be to remove the phone from your vehicle and delete the vehicle connection from your phone and then reconnect!

Just bought a 2023 Laramie. I want to delete U-Connect / 4gte wifi and the Sirius's 360L off this. Then just use Android Auto for any mapping and the old fashioned Sirius. for music etc. Is this possible? The goal being to get away from subscription based stuff.

No way to just delete it.. just stop using it and continue hooking up through Android Auto or CarPlay. You can use the MyPages section along the bottom to create your own homescreen that doesn't show factory navigation too

The wireless apple carplay stopped working on my ram. it only works when I connect the wire, when you click on the icon in the device manager, there is no connection, the rest of the bluetooth functions work with the phone and the ringtone. What could be the problem?

Hi. I have a 2022 Ram Limited. Until the last service appt my truck would auto lock itself as I walked away with the key fob. It doesn’t do it anymore and now they are telling me that though I selected the feature it didn’t come with it. Any help here? I know I’m not going crazy.

Hey Dave, I wasn't aware that Ram trucks had the passive locking system as well as the unlock. From what I know of the Ram trucks I've reviewed so far they only offer passive unlock and then locking without pressing the keyfob by using the button on the drivers door handle to lock them. I'll have a look at a Ram next week but you can also check your uConnect media screen to see if the feature is listed. Settings -- > Doors & Locks

When you're on the media screen, under sources does it list SiriusXM? Another spot to check is under the Apps -- > All section If that's not there, check to see if there are any updates available. There were people who had that issue in the old uConnect 4 system and you might have to manually install the latest update

I considered dropping the B/T function on my phone and connecting only directly via usb (still contemplating). I have tried to disable B/T completely, but the UConnect forces it back on., but I can stop the audio function if the usb cable is connected.

Steve, I also have a Galaxy S9 and I have been unable to get my wireless AA to work. I checked to make sure "wireless AA" is checked. I turned off battery saver. I uninstalled and reinstalled AA. I disconnected bluetooth and reconnected. I disconnected all wifi signals. I restarted the phone and truck. Is there something I am missing?? Thanks

It sounds like you've done everything that I'd normally recommend. Try removing the phone from the regular bluetooth connection and reconnect if you haven't tried that and make sure that your phone/uConnect are on the latest version. Also the option to try a factory reset on the uConnect screen to see if that fixes it!

Steve, question 3rd day with my rebel. I use andriod auto 12inch screen. Is it possible because I can't find a way but when on the andriod auto tab have my lower widget be the NAV and use the andriod auto top portion for music so it will display the album art. There's no way that I know of to customize the layout of the Android Auto buttons to show the nav button. An overlooked feature that hopefully gets fixed in future updates!

uConnect 5 wasn't available in the 2021 models.. If you can find a replacement screen you might be able to get it programmed for a 2022 though. It would probably be a pricey upgrade

If you are using carplay and get direction from apple maps does it show rhe direction in the HUD or just the Tom Tom navigation

Easiest one to try: 1. Delete the phone connection from uConnect 5 screen 2. Delete the truck connection through bluetooth on your phone. Also make sure that you remove the vehicle from Settings --> General --> CarPlay 3. Re-connect the phone over bluetooth and it should prompt you to connect to CarPlay

The 2020 was still on uConnect 4. There's a different tech in the screen itself so the only way to get the features would be to replace the whole screen and then have it reprogrammed. Not impossible but not cheap to do either

Is this not a uconnect 4? My uconnect 5 is full screen for my android. However, any video playing is blown up because of the vertical full screen, any ideas on how to fix this?

It's uConnect5... The dimensions are set by the manufacturer so as far as I know there are no ways to fix the sizing yourself. Curious about the video playback.. I haven't seen a screen that offers video playback by hooking up directly through Android Auto or CarPlay. Are you using an aftermarket connector?

Hi, I have a 2024 Laramie 1500 I wanted to know how to set up or leave the front defrost on when i do remote start. I have the comfort on, but only the rear defrost, steering wheel & seats turns on with the remote start.

This is a pretty common bug with a lot of manufacturers. The only fix I've been able to come across is to make sure that the front defroster is turned on at night before you turn the truck off. When you remote start the next morning the front defroster should also come on

@@CarsWithSteve I tried leaving the defrost overnight, but with the remote start it doesn't turn on until I get in and hit the start button. Even if I left the radio on overnight it doesn't stay on with the remote start.. The truck in running but everything is off until I hit the start button.

Such an odd issue with the front defrost. For the radio make sure that the setting is enabled to allow that. It's covered in the Radio section of this video but you can get to it under Media --> Auto Play. Just make sure Auto Play is turned on!

Nah, for the Unconnect 4C system in your 2021 Ram, updates are done via USB. The Unconnect 5 supports OTA updates.

I have a 2023 ram 3500 lara. Can’t figure out how to get my Samsung note 10 to show google maps while connected to android auto. Other issue is I’m trying to get my bsm camera to turn on while signaling. I changed the option from trailer only to on but it doesn’t turn on the camera on the signaled side. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Btw great job going through the options… very thorough.

That's odd.. Google Maps is the one thing that should be working through Android Auto. Are the phone and uConnect screen up to date and will Android Auto at least connect to the screen? The side view camera should come on. Does it work ok when there's no trailer connected?

@@CarsWithSteve as far as I know both devices are up to date. My truck was just built last month and delivered 5 days ago. I haven't used my trailer yet to see if it will pop on then. The cameras do work if I select them. In the options it was set to trailer only but I did switch it to always.

Note 10 is compatible with the screen so you could try deleting the phone from the vehicle and vehicle from the phone and then reconnect to see if that gets it connected properly. Next step would be to perform a factory reset on the uConnect screen to see if that solves it. For the blind spot camera it would make sense that it didn't turn on at first. If you had it selected for trailer and no trailer is connected it wouldn't work because of the setting you had chosen

One other thing that you can try On your phone, go to Settings > Battery and device care > Battery > Background usage limits > Deep sleeping apps If Google Maps is there then do a long press on the Google Maps app icon > Exclamation mark (app info) > Battery > unrestricted If that doesn't work then drop back and update me if you figure it out! I'm sure people facing a similar issue are trying to find a solution

that's odd. Is the screen blank or can you still see all the buttons? If it's blank, try pressing the power switch on the audio knob. If it's not responding to touches and everything is visible then you should schedule it in for service

How do you recalibrate the compass???

The compass is supposed to be self-calibrating.. You can try this though: from a fresh start, press the screen power button to turn it off then back on again. Drive the vehicle in two to three 360 degree turns in an area free from trees or metallic objects. I've seen on a few Ram forums that people have had ground issues with theirs. So if the above tip doesn't work you may need to take it in for service

I have a Ram 2024 and after the vehicle head unit updated, Apple CarPlay stopped working. I deleted my phone from the unit and the unit from the phone. Reconnected everything but still no wireless car play like before. My phone settings shows the uconnect system in the Bluetooth & CarPlay connection areas. On the uconnect, it shows my phone but the Apple CarPlay button is gone. The phones wireless CarPlay connects in my other car just fine.

Have you tried a screen reset? Try a soft reset first by pressing an holding the power button for 5-10 seconds which will force a restart. If that doesn't work, a full factory reset may help

Is the traffic portion of the nav working for you? Make sure that the media screen is up to date. If it is, you can try a factory reset. There are a few people in some Ram forums that are having the same issue. If none of those work, contact Ram or your dealer to let them know of the issue. There should be an OTA update in the next few months

Depends on the build of your truck but most are coming with onboard LTE modems which require a data plan. To see if your truck has it go to Apps, scroll down to the bottom and you should see WiFi Hotspot that will lead you through how to setup the data plan!

If I go to devise mgr and select music on the connected phone my home screen displays the song playing. If AA is selected the home screen and AA show what AA thinks I'm listening to. Depends on what I have selected, podcast, news, etc. Not the song that's playing.

That podcast bar will always be there.. just an odd feature is some versions of Android Auto. But deleting a podcast or downloaded song to ensure it doesn't play automatically would just be following the directions in the last reply.

No.. it's an available option. The default is the 8.4" uConnect 5, then you have 8.4" with nav and then this 12" option!

Hey Shad, what type of phone are you using? And is the Android Auto app enabled? On your phone search for Android Auto and go to settings. Under system, make sure that Wireless Android Auto is turned on

I had an issue with the backing cam after updating the operative system of the Uconnect. I did a factory reset and everything went back to normal. I think developers left a couple of bugs on the software and have to do a better inspection of the code.

Could just be wiring that's loose. Have you ever taken the tailgate off? Take a look behind the license plate area to see if there's anything loose or take it in for servicing

This UCONNECT sucks! Mine is 1 month old and a total POS. Bricked on me several times. Sometimes decides to connect to CarPlay, many times not. Will not leave the CarPlay map up on the screen, constantly changing back (I have video of this happening) to Home Screen (which shows the Tom Tom map, not my CarPlay map)…in congested areas, this was killing me. Siri reads a text to me, but I cannot hear her. Siri is useless for anything else when connected to CarPlay. Even showed a turn one direction on the screen while simultaneously showing the turn in the opposite direction in my instrument cluster (I have video of this, too). And when I get out of the car, the friggin’ radio stays on many times even after I turn the car off and I leave and lock the car…other times it goes off when I turn the car off. There’s no rhyme or reason to it. It’s just a shit system. Sync was better.
