In this video we'll show you how to permanently get rid of those matted down and beat-up attached back cushions. We'll help you save the look of your sofa as well as make your back cushions last longer then they would if they stayed attached.
We'll guide you along on how to trace your back cushions to make new ones from your sofa, loveseat, or chair on up. And how to change knife edge back cushions into boxed back cushions.
We hope you enjoy!

Would you be able to make a tutorial on how to restuff the attached seat cushions? I have a microfiber couch that the seats are super saggy and i can feel the springs in the seat. Got the couch for $50 and i really want to save it.

My father inlaw is a 3rd generation master upholsterer and has decided he wants to get rid of his sewing machine equipment. He asked my husband(his son) if he knew anyone that may want any of them. I was like "HELLO!". The only reason I hand stitch/sew anything is because I don't have a frickin' sewing machine other than my hands when Im jacked up on caffeine and even then carpal tunnel doesn't help. Not too mention he still has TONS and I mean TONS of material of all kinds. I've asked him so many times if he would be willing to show me how to do a few things and if I could do it in is little at home shop but he is just DONE doing it. I understand hes like 76yrs old and has the $$ to pay someone else to do it if he needs or wants something like that done. But I like your videos because now I really don't need to ask him much about this type of stuff. So yay and thanks

That large square seat cushion that is on the right end of the right section looks like it is supposed to go in the corner (on the left instead of on the right), which would make sense as it would have to be same depth for both sections to align. (At 11:40 you say it's 26" one way and 24" the other, but shouldn't it be 26" both directions?) If you look at 6:54, it looks like the edge of the seat cushion that is in the corner doesn't line up with the center of the vertical back piece which would be where the old cushions meet. It actually looks like the edge lines up with the edge of the hole on the vertical back piece that the old cushion was stitched to instead of the center. If you look at 3:17 the cushion edges are offset with the vertical fabric pieces of the back (where you cut the cushions off) when the cushion edges should line up with the center of those pieces. (Compare that to the other section where at 5:20 you can see the seat cushion edge lines up with the center of the vertical back piece. ) It you make the right back cushion the width of the cushion that really should go in the corner, won't that right cushion be too big?

My couch came with velcro. The best of both worlds. they stay in place and I don;t have to constantly have to readjust and fuss with the pillows, but I can remove them when I want to clean or refluff them very easily. I really don;t like loose pillows because they are all over the place, slip down and constantly have to be rearranged.

Hi there Blanca, above all else, thank you for watching the video and checking out our channel. I see your point, that is the best of both worlds it’s actually pretty rare to find a sofa that does use Velcro to hold on the back cushions. You can keep them in place, and replace the filling or replenish it when needed,a lot easier.!! Again thank you very much and please share the videos, it helps Grant and myself out when you do. Cheers to you, Paul

Hello Colleen, Thank you for viewing the video. In this video I was focusing on the removal of attached back cushions. The yellow is a slipcover I was doing for a client not re-upholstery. I do have a video on my channel on how to slipcover a sofa it is in 3 parts. Or if you would like to learn how to re-upholster a sofa we have a full video 8 hours long start to finish. It is at ucprivatecourses.com check into it, it could be exactly what you are looking for. Again thank you for watching and please share, it helps a great deal when you do. Cheers, Paul

Hi there Peggy, yes I’d love to help you as much as I can. I am a little confused of what you’re asking but if I have this straight. You’re saying when you removed your back cushions there’s an opening or a hole in the cushion exposing the poly fill? In that particular video my client wanted a slipcover and years ago I stopped doing slip covers with attached back cushions I can do it but most people would love to have removable cushions. My point in saying that is the purpose of the video was to show people how to make a slipcover and have removable attached back cushions. So if you’re making a slipcover just make new back cushion covers from your slip cover fabric Tracing the front of the cushion as your sample. Go to ucprivatecourses.com. We have live chat On that site and we could exchange phone numbers. And I can talk to you over the phone unless you need no further assistance. I hope this has helped you thank you very much for watching. All the best, Paul

I need help fixing a torn seam on a no removable couch cushion on a beautiful leather couch. The black upholstery fabric it is supposed to stay sewn to tore. If I remove the seated cushions, I’m worried I’ll make the problem worse & I don’t think the cushions are leather top & bottom- Please offer any advice if you can.

Hello Caitlin, thank you for watching I apologize for the late reply we have been extremely busy. If I have it right the tear is on the bottom of the cushion were the less expensive fabric is on the other side of the cushion. Yes you are right it's very rare to have leather on both sides of the cushion,too much money. So with out seeing the sofa or the problem first hand, ( do not remove the cushion). Try to hand sew the best you can with an upholstery needle they are longer much longer or a curved needle you can find them online. Or consider using fabric/leather glue with an wood workers glue syringe, that too can be found online. I hope this has helped you. Please share the videos it helps us when you do. Best Regards, Paul

I want to get rid of the cotton attached back cushion for like... one that will stay in shape ? Not 100% what I'm even talking about. And could you help me pic the right color? I have grey walls with blue under tons, a dark brown pallet wall, with marble like grey brown tiles. What color should my couch be?

Hey there, thank you for watching the video. Following the instructions you will be able to get rid of your attached back cushions which I think they should stop making they have a lot of issues. Even when they’re removed if they don’t keep their shape it’s probably because they’re filled with poly fill which gives very little support. We do sell double shredded foam on our website you might want to look at that video as well. You can find it on our channel about fixing the sagging back cushions. Ucprivatecourses.com here’s the website. As far as picking the right color unfortunately I’m not the person for you. I’d have to be there as well the time of the day the sunlight affects color. However I don’t think you could ever go wrong with a neutral color. Especially on a large piece like a sofa. There’s a lot of people online that do color advice that I know can help you 😊. I hope this is helped you and again thank you very much for watching the video, please share with others it helps us when you do. All the best, Paul

Does this work the same for seat cushions ?
@ucsolutionsgivingmore
@ucsolutionsgivingmore 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Kelly, yes the principal could apply to seat cushions you could remove them and make a slipcover. I would just go slow like in a corner to see what’s underneath there, so no permanent damage is done in case you do not want to move forward. Attach seat cushions have been a problem for us in this industry. I wish they’d stop making that style because people end up throwing them in the trash sad. Thanks for watching our video, please share because it helps us out when you do. Cheers, Paul

But you didn't show how to cut backs off..?
@ucsolutionsgivingmore
@ucsolutionsgivingmore 6 жыл бұрын
Hello Kellyann, I really thought that was in the video, we did film it, it must have gotten cut by accident. It's really easy!! Get a pair thread snips or sharp point scissors look closely for the thread holding on the back cushion to the inside back. Start snipping away at the treads all the way around and your back cushion will come lose. Thanks for watching hope this has helped. Paul

Hello Pete, sorry it’s very late to replying to your comment. I didn’t see it there it was hidden. We’re outside Washington DC definitely out of your jurisdiction. Unfortunately I don’t know of any place in Georgia but I’m sure there’s a lot of good upholstery shops in your area Or at least not too far from you. If the furniture is worth keeping I would definitely get it done. Thanks for watching I wish I was more help. Cheers, Paul
