That's why I love reading and discovering new literature ( new to me) because two very different people can have the same visceral response to said literature! Have a great day 😁.

I have never ceased to be an avid fan of my friend, C. S. Lewis. No author has ever kept me so spell bound as he has been here. I do agree with him that the younger generation has no cause to disbelieve in God and His Creation if they find someone to tell it to them faithfully and as softly and convincingly as possible.

As a hospice nurse, I live these sad moments daily. I hate it. I had a patient this week who has a loving husband and two sweet babies aged 9 and 6. Her husband wept through the entire admission process. I am leaving my career in hospice in a month’s time. I just can’t do it anymore. But I will continue to pray for those strong enough to keep at it. LOVE C.S. Lewis and Joy. Shadowlands is one of the best movies ever!!

On a trip to England in the early 80s, I had the improbable good fortune to visit The Kilns, Lewis's home outside of Oxford. There in the living room, I listened to Walt Hooper, Lewis's secretary, tell stories of his life with the great man. I would never have imagined that I would, one day, sit in the room where Mere Christianity was written -- not to mention the books of Narnia. It was obvious that Walt - with his gentle almost hushed recollections of the life that had filled the Kilns - had loved Lewis. It was a very modest place that was full of Lewis's absence, full of the kind of quiet that follows the bang of the back door.

@Karl Jansen Yes, Karl is correct. You were given the gift of the Holy Spirit at your original baptism, and your commitment is a sign of the outworking of - your response to - that priceless gift. I now: I was persuaded to have a second (immersion) baptism, but realised years later that God had been present in my life all along. I just needed to acknowledge that and make a continuing committment. The debate about immersion vs sprinkling is foolishness. The early church used both - and a third, putting one's head under a flow of water.

@@annbrucepineda8093 "Christening" is simply a nickname for baptism, from the priest/minister making the sign of the Cross on the forehead of the person being baptised. Sacraments are "outward visible signs of inward spiritual grace" to quote Augustine. Baptism is a sacrament, meaning that the grace of God is given to us in it. (Presbyterians believe in Sacraments: read the Westminster Confession). How we respond to that grace is another matter, a matter of our own free will. I am not a theologian and cannot comment on why the Lord Himself was baptised. It would be helpful if people used 21st century English, not obsolete 16th century English, when quoting Scripture.

@ Susan Damsen Thanks for the " word of knowledge in due season"! ...abt the book "A GRIEF OBSERVED". I just lost my good friend and ex-husband very suddenly but not unexpectedly, just days ago. I never expected to feel like this. Perhaps your suggestion is just the balm to remove the sting of tears that I feel. He was a true Christian friend...we had eachother's backs. He sheltered me when I was homeless, offered food out of hospitality and sat at my bedside when I needed an advocate for my pain...even crying bc he hurt too! Perhaps this was the kind of love we were meant to experience... We had a son ...a petulant, brooding sort ...a very successful man in life and in 💑 marriage! Their daughter 17, a top of her class electrician, is abt to set out on her own great adventure w. a flame from preschool days. Perhaps this is the lesson we were to have given to our posterity...love that begins w. friendship and matures into " life longing for itself"...(Gibran, I believe). I read the whole Chroicles series and "THE SCREWTAPE LETTERS"& saw "SHADOWLANDS". it is perhaps time to. revisit all my old acquaintances in Narnia. I have decided to make a memory quilt out of my "friend's" old shirts ...for our grand-daughter 's ...but also for anyone needing a hug from a good friend, "papou" or dad. Sir! You had me in the palm of your hand and circumstance held me there! Fascinating!

The mark of brilliance is not the intellectual that comes from the mouth that so many believe. The humility and grace that comes within now that is radiance. In many of his stories CS Lewis created characters based on this and the Lion Aslan is a brilliant example. I am grateful that his books filled my heart during my childhood. Mr Payne you did a wonderful characterization of an amazing man who faced many trials and tribulations but kept rising and his faith alone was the reason. A testament to the love you had for him.

There’s only one TINY little problem with what you wrote above, Sir.☝️ There has never been, nor will there ever be, even the SLIGHTEST shred of evidence for the existence of the Godhead, that is, a Supreme Person or Deity.‬🤓 It is high time for humanity to awaken from all INANE superstitions such as the belief in a Personal God which created the Universe, would you not agree, Slave? 😩

@@TheWorldTeacher you call yourself teacher, yet you don't know what is obvious. The evidence of God is all around you. You are without excuse. Even your own conscience is proof of God. And as extra proof of your not knowing everything, I am no sir. Read the Bible, read Romans, before you throw away thoughtlessly your only hope, read it and ask if it's true.

@@TheWorldTeacher "Is there a god? I do not know. Is man immortal? I do not know. But one thing I do know Is that neither doubt nor hope, belief nor denial Will change the fact. It is as it is And it will be as it must be. We wait and hope". (Dag Hammarskold I think said that, and I hope I've not misremembered.) Either way, O "Teacher" it is not necessary to be a believer in order to be charitable to your fellow man. A lesson worth pondering.

@@T-aka-T you are correct, but the Lord Jesus did not come to earth to teach a social gospel. He came as a propitiation, an atonement for your transgressions against a Holy God. Romans 6:23 " the wages of sin is death,...." " No liar nor thieves, But nothing unclean will ever enter the kingdom of heaven nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb's book of life" "...but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Love your brother, because that is righteous, but understand someone must pay for every time you did not. Someone must pay for every lie you have told, every rude word you have uttered, every time you have thought something wicked, every theft, no matter how small you are guilty of, had to be atoned for. You are guilty, make a deal with the judge before your appointed time, because then it will be too late. Accept that the Lord Jesus willingly paid for debt so that you don't have to, then trust Him, read His Words and follow Him to life everlasting.

Brilliant performance. And the fact that CS Lewis got angry at God for what he believed about Him, after his wife died. We always feel guilty , and wonder if we're the only person who feels that way. It's comforting to know that others have gone through situations where they rail at God, when they can't see the reason for what's happened. I've been there any number of times in the last 8 months. Thankfully, God sees the fear that we camouflage in angry words.

C.S.Lewis has a special place in my heart, as my father read all the Narnia books to my brother and I as children. Remembering my father weeping after Shadowlands, as he recalled his own parents' experiences with cancer, brought tears of my own now that he too is gone, from cancer. This play was beautiful and I could have listened for hours more. Thanks so much for sharing it. It has rekindled a desire to read Lewis again.

@@TheWorldTeacher I pray that you will seek and find the truth about Jesus Christ who died on the cross over 2000 yrs for you and I. Please study near death experiences, true near death experiences. Many children have also spoken with Jesus while their heart had stopped beating. Medical doctors are also among near death experiences meeting Jesus and Satan, Hell. Hell exists, Satan exists and you will find out the second you breathe your last breath with your thinking.

@@Psalm-31-24, I apologize for shattering your illusions, Slave, but Lord Jesus DIED a couple of millennia ago. 🙄 First of all, Mr. Deluded Religionist, there is no TANGIBLE evidence for the claim that Lord Jesus rose from the dead and ascended to some mythical place called “Heaven”. Words in a book can not prove anything which has occurred in the phenomenal sphere. Words, at best, can only prove abstract concepts. 🤓 Secondly, even if He did, in fact, rise after one and a half days, His body was not the same as the one He had at the time of death (assuming what was written in the Gospels is accurate). In fact, it was SO different, that at least some of His closest disciples were unable to recognise Lord Jesus, even after conversing with their master for several hours.🤔 “After this he appeared in ANOTHER form to two of them, as they were walking into the country.” Mark 16:12. And, obviously, a person IS the physical body (plus consciousness). There is absolutely no evidence of such a thing as a “soul” or a “spirit”.

@@Psalm-31-24, PMS are the initials for “Premenstrual Syndrome”, which every woman (except, perhaps, Mama Maria) has at LEAST once a month, when she cannot control her moods and emotions.
