Adding to the comments below. I owned an E30 M3 , E60 M5 I even had a E34 M5. But the E39 M5 is the best BMW ever built hands down. Naturally aspirated no turbo no nothing. The German car Gods where in that design studio when this beast was designed and built.No fancy grills or large brakes and calipers that force people to look. Simple clean German engineering at its finest 6 speed sports sedan. The Mercs have their AMG yes but automatic or triptronic isnt driving. Not even an over body kitted Renntech can match the E39 M5.

When BMW made this M5 they wanted to change the car industry forever. And they did. Fastest sedan in the world, highest horsepower back then as well. 400 HP was unheard of back then. They paved the way for other manufactures years later to copy. But in the end the E39 M5 is the Beast was the Beast and always will be a ground breaking Beast. Raw HP Pure BMW driving experience with this M5. Simply Amazing. Ausgezeichnet !!!

the w220 S65 AMG had over 600bhp, man. Granted it did not handle near as good as the M5 but it was far more powerful than the M5.
