Udio AI music fun over the weekend, BUT is it music at all?

Over the weekend, I had fun experimenting with the Udio AI music creator. But is the music it creates really music at all? As a person who has played a musical instrument, I find this to be confusing, as to whether I can determine if this is AI music or not. When taking the human out of music, is it music? Can you tell the difference?

Hey John, I have an issue. So, Linux mint is in my USB so in Live media. When I went on it gave me an error: Failed to open \EFI\BOOT\mmx64.efi - Not Found Failed to load image \EFI\BOOT\mmx64.efi: Not Found Failed to start MokManager: Not Found Something has gone seriously wrong: import_mok_state() failed What is the solution to this? Also I am daul-booting

Hi yet again, John. I'm glad you mentioned the music having no soul. I utterly agree, though I look with trepidation to a future in which soul is redefined to fit these artificial constructs. Or perhaps I'm narrow-minded, and we need to think of metal-based life as valid, too. I'll leave that to Asimov and company for now, though actually, I think Ellison had more relevant things to say on the matter. Or even Serling. I wanted to mention that I thought the heavy metal cut was by far the worst. I am not a metal guy, my tastes run to Dylan, Beatles, Bach, Cash, and the Miles Davis jazz guys. But what hit me about this metal "song" was that it reminded me of either A. a bad off Broadway musical trying to sound trendy to the metal crowd, with the usual too little, too late, of what such productions accomplish, or B. A TV advert studio band, trying to sound all edgy and metal while actually offending no one, and allowing themselves to be thought parody if that made the product they're selling more acceptable. Neither of those is much that would send me to nirvana, though both might drive me to Nirvana. Smells like AI spirit? I've little doubt they can improve it to a degree, but I think we ought to take a look at the "uncanny valley" analogy we use in visual CGI and FX and the like, for comparisons. But, waggish ol' me can't help but remember his guardians hearing the Beatles and Stones in the early sixties, and telling me "That isn't music". So, kinda weird, enniit, mate? Be well, my good man, and keep the videos coming.

Smells like AI spirit! Very funny! There are a lot of good points you make, I didn't even think about " that isn't music" from my parents generation. My dad thought polka was as good as music gets. Nothing further to discuss with him. Drove him nuts when I took up guitar. Got no kudos on that no matter how good I got. AI music has a lack of depth, seems flat, like a replica of sorts, never the real thing.

@@johnishappy You are spot on regarding the AI product seeming like replica, not the real thing. I wonder what Roy Batty would say to us, if we said that in Blade Runner, though, lol. Just as an interesting aside to the early sixties infusion of all the new music, it is extraordinary to play the "time game." My wife teaches middle school, including a lot of kids from other countries. And many of her students know the Beatles well. That was sixty years ago. The time game is this. Were we listening (those of us old enough, like me) to music from 1904 in 1964. I think not. My reaction to the AI produced stuff can be summarized, appropriately enough, with a phrase from Bob Dylan's "One More Cup of Coffee", from his "Desire" album. "I don't sense affection--no gratitude or love..." Funny off topic story? When that "Desire" album came out in about 1975, we all would come into the record store where an absolutely drop-dead gorgeous woman was clerking, so we could ask her "Do you have Desire?" Luckily, she found us pitifully amusing instead of the dolts and idiots we were, lol. Then again, we didn't DARE ask for Richard Pryor's first comedy album by name. Man, sorry for the old man memories, I hope I didn't buzz-kill all your comment section.

If I made good money from my music, I'd be terrified right now. However, I am strangely apathetic towards AI music, to be honest. Spotify etc. are going to become wastelands of endless muzak playlists against which, especially smaller artists won't be able to compete. In a very short amount of time, online music services and stores will get so overwhelmed with AI swill, that no one will want to use those services any more. The average person out there doesn't care if music is "real" but deep inside they will recognize the emptiness of AI. It will be like Yahoo chat after spammers had figured out how to spam chats into oblivion. So, the end of my hobby won't be as much AI music itself but rather the consequences of its abuse. I predict the end of small bedroom producers such as myself and a new era for corporate funded live music.

I thought about giving this a new name, Azak. It's not unlike the Muzak pumped into buildings everywhere back in the 70's & 80's. But you can tell it's "correct" musically, but as we know, it has no soul.

I wonder how many people will watch your video and immediately try out udio? I know I did. It will probably be very successful because it makes music which is just as bland and samey as the real thing currently being pumped out by overpaid and delusional so called stars.
