Watching this compilation makes me realise the absolute dross players Gerrard had alongside him for most of his career. The 08/09 team was probably the only Liverpool team that had any right getting near major trophies, so what he achieved was remarkable.

His first ever goal vs Kiev is the one I never forget because that's the first Liverpool in the Champions League - and I remembered myself watching that match alone in livingroom after the landlady of the boarding house was so kind to me. His goal v Olympiacos & Milan are so decisive. But the way he scored goals v Inter & Marseille outside the box from that difficult angle are so extraordinary rare. ✨

He's regarded as one of the finest players of his generation and unlike some other midfielders in England is often marked out amongst top foriegn players about his ability. Not sure were you heard that. Presumably you are talking about his management credentials which are unproven at the moment. For me the best English midfielder in the last 20 years is Paul Scholes. As a Man United fan, watching all of those United vs Liverpool games, home and away, the one player I always hated the most was Steven Gerrard because he always shows up against us. But come to think of it, he was a fantastic player, it's crazy to me that he never won the Premier League while Scholes and Lampard did but its show how much of a player he was when he stayed up at the highest level of his game despite being in weaker sides. Astonishing.

Different players. Gerrard liked to orchestrate, majority of his goals are long shots, running from deep or penalties. Frank took up such dangerous positions, just had that sixth sense so his goals maybe looked less flashy but stil he scored over 20 goals a season for 5 or 6 seasons in a row which was unbelievable for a midfielder. Not knocking either player, just different. Dave - Liverpool fan.
