I frigging LOVE Dana's way of approaching these questions. No nonsense. No holes barred. No pulling of punches. There is no question that he is a 3D, real life person with serious passion behind what he does.

That main event is the reason why boxing doesen't entertain me these days, the reason pro wrestling doesen't entertain me these days! This is why I love the sport of mma sooo much!! That main event was a classic!!!!! I think that feud could go down as one of the best. I will never doubt Frankie Edgar again. He showed great heart and determination, you have to respect him as a fighter! I can't wait for the rematch!!!!!

A: Frankie Won B: Frankie has to beat EVERYONE twice now?! C: To anyone who thinks GM won - fyi, to take a belt, you have to beat the champ CONVINCINGLY. That is the standard. Gray did it for 1 round, then could NOT finish Frankie. So, he does NOT get Frankie's belt. Simple. Gray gave 1 great round WITHOUT a finish, then lost 4 to Edgar. When they fight again, everyone will see Frankie win AGAIN and it will be just like the two BJ fights. GM simply did NOT get it done. Next time, same result.

All fights should be 5 rounds...you should only win by KO/TKO or Submission..if not its a draw.. The Silva and Edgar fights would have been more interesting if they knew they had to finish it.

gotta be honest it was an amazing card overall and the main event I didnt exactly mind it was a draw anything to stop Gray Maynard winning the title even though he fought well but Frankie showed true heart and took him down more than he did to Frankie he just mainly dominated Frankie in round 1

@AssassinsCreed71 Actually, I don't even think it was a draw. I thought round one was a 10-8 for Maynard, and then miraculously, Frankie stayed in it and, in my opinion, took every round that followed. I think Frankie should've had the decision.

Frank Edgar & Gray Maynard 3? Rematches right after a close fight is getting old. Let Frank fight Pettis & Maynard fight BJ Penn or Clay Guida or who ever wins between Evan and Melvin, but not another rematch for Frank Edgar. Not only is it a unfair to Pettis, it's unfair to Frank. Will he have to rematch every close fight? He lost the 1st round, however, no one, but the lame judges thought Maynard won. Most post I see on the net say Frank won or it was a draw, but none say Maynard won.

@HelloBro111 Who cares anyways. I was just expressing how I felt about the fight. Franky didn't impress me in this fight. Grey gassed out. I dont think Franky can truly beat Grey. But it was a draw. Your rite. This is obvious. Championship fights should never be a draw. The hell with this fight. We are talking about a belt. Thats all. A Championship fight should never, I repeat never be a Draw. Thats ridiculous. 3 round fights okay. But not a Championship fight.

I like Franky but Grey Won that fight. I am tired of Ref's letting alot of these fighters getting there ass beat because they have to much pride to say I quit. The fight should have been stopped that first round. Franky looked like he just learned how to Walk. let alone fight. Vegas= Rip off! That shit was not a Draw. A championship fight a DRAW? are you kidding me. That was disgusting. What was the game plan get your ass kicked the first round then try and come back? wtf? Wow!
@BlariX

@RealTenryuken I'm not sure if you know the term ''to survive'' and that is what Edgar did. At no point did Edgar stop moving and that is what decides the fight. He kept moving even when he was getting beat the shit out of him and that is why he was stumbling around. Great decision by the ref to let it continue as you can see Edgar came back second round and completely dominated Maynard. Edgar won the next 3 rounds. To say Maynard won the fight you clearly are a fanboy. Edgar actually won it.

REPLY DANA: As a fan you have the right to praise or bash anything. If i say, "This fight is gonna be great" is just the same as "This fight is gonna suck" These are just two ends of the spectrum. This sport would not exist in the capacity it does, if it wasn't for both spectrums.

@dannielpreto haha it's funny if you read it that way, but what I think Dana meant to say "10-7 is lik a unicorn man. (pause) -then reffering to the 10-7 score----> some people have seen them but theyre very rare haha see he compared 10-7 to a unicorn; in the sense that 10-7s dont happen often at all, because he wasnt being literal, and it was a clever, silly comparison hope that made sense lol
@MexicanMetlAC

A 10-8 means you got beat up and offered no offense of your own. A 10-7 means you didn't even defend yourself and if that happened then the fight gets stopped. Come on people. Look at what happened to Phil Baroni and Chris Leben. Those are finishes. That's when you stop the fight. The way Frankie came back in the 2nd round as if nothing happened clearly shows the ref made the right call.

Why does there even have to be a rematch? The only round Maynard won was the 1st. Then he stood still in the middle of the octagon for the next 4 rounds. Edgar was pushing the pace the entire fight. 4 rounds to 1. Only reason Dana is doing a rematch is because there's nothing else to throw at Edgar right now that would make more money than a rematch with Maynard. Hope Frankie KOs maynard. Tired of his whining.

@kcplayer69 I was thinking that too!!! I think the judges consider a 10-7 round a COMPLETE shutout, 100%, like everyone says it rarely happens, Fightmetric said Edgar landed 7 powershots (4 to head) in the first round, spread out throughout the whole body that's not many at all, but its not a 100% shutout, more like 98%, with our current system I don't think we'll ever see a 10-7, unless its a 10 second KO with Dan Miragliotta giving the loser 4:50 to fight back
@ukogmickey

@stockmaster1982 A second chance ? To redeem themselves ?? Gray maynard won that fight so he was robbed. He shouldnt even be in this position. The way I look at the fight is this, If Gray was given the decision do you think there would be this big outcry and debate for an immediate rematch ? NO. If Frankie got the decision ? Yes of course there would be an outcry. Thats how I see it. Therefore deep down everyone knows who won that fight. It was close but Maynard won.

Dana White is right, people shouldn't be making predictments before a fight. Just like Dana did when he was selling us UFC 119 Mir vs CroCop, especially when Dana said it was going to be the most explosive action packed card then we got the most dull card ever. PS, I don't understand the Mazzagati diss, he did his job cempetantly, it's not his job to dictait where the fights goes, its the fighters job. Great card though
@Jamie238
@Jamie238 13 жыл бұрын
@sefrzan News flash- Edgar DID NOT win the fight either! Plus he got dropped on his ass 5 times in one round while being unable to drop Gray once the entire fight. No one should be considered champ until the title is Undisputed. As champ your duty is to defend your belt, Edgar didn't do that. So he is as much of a failure as you say Gray is. This is why they are having an immediate rematch and its truly the right decision.

you gotta love Dana. i still find it unbelievable how mazzagatti is still a ref. we have been putting up with his terrible reffing for years now. funny how the athletic commision seems to have no respect for dana... he has been wanting to get rid of maz for a long time now and they could "care less what i think," as dana likes to put it. you would think the UFC has some influence on who the refs are, but i guess they dont

@XinKotetsu I agree I mean shit he practically had Frankie Edgar out and yet he still couldn't finish him and that's what I saying after the 1st round about how Gray's finishing skills are probably the worst in MMA. Pettis on the other hand is a great fighter with multiple ko's and submission victories. Had Pettis been in Gray's position in the 1st round, Pettis would be the UFC champ. But due to it being a draw of course there is a rematch.

@chalotnufc How does he Keep getting re-mataches when he has only lost 1 fight? Are they planning on re-matching him against guys he beat??? As usual people are taking one fight and rolling it out to represent the guys entire career. Your basically saying that if you don't finish a guy then you can't be the Champ. If that was the case we would not have a Welterweight, Lightweight and Bantamweight Champ. PS Gray is pretty cocky watch more than 1 UFC 125 interview.

Gray had his chance and he blew it...i thought Edgar won imho...he showed tha heart of a fuckin Champion and came back to box circles and out wrestle Gray...i have no issue w tha draw but for Gray to get tha immediate rematch is WRONG...Petis is gonna beat both these guys anyways but it should be his turn tha kid earned it...to have a change of heart and give Gray a second chance is BS...Petis is at tha top of his game and when he pops his UFC cherry it will be awsome!
@Pick1980a

@chalotnufc How can you say he can not defend his belt decisively when the last time he defended it he won by unanimous decision! You might have thought the first fight was close but the second sure as hell wasn't. I am so surprised that this kid has gotten no love for surviving a 3min (entire boxing round) beating. Brock got a ton of love when he survived Carwin and Frankie gets nothing. The fact is Edgar is a 145er beating 155ers and thats fucking impressive no matter how you look at it.

Sometimes I think Dana goes after Mazzagatti too hard - Silva was advancing positions against Vera and plenty of GnP. You can't diss the ref because you expected a stand up fight between those two and it turns out one wanted to work on the ground. I don't hear Dana complain when wrestlers are laying and praying elsewhere - I think he was just disappointed in how the fight played out like a lot of the rest of us.

Firstly Dana has deffo done the right thing giving gray the rematch, Secondly I think this again was another massive judging dissaster. Gray maynard won that fight hands down. Im in the UK and us guys have to sit up till 6am to see a fuckin joke of a decision like that. I was disgusted and switched off the TV and went to bed. Frankie deffo is a tough kid and showed his true champ heart but that dont make it right. Yep another pisstake of a decision.

Wow, Dana seemed really provoked in this interview. I pretty much completly agree with everything that was said, but he seemed quite angry at points, understandably so tho. On another note, Gray Maynard deserves a rematch, he has worked hard for this since he was a little kid, this isnt just some dream he has, this is his life, did you know Maynard was even named after a wrestler. A draw, basically these guys would have to live with "I`m not the only lightweight champion" which just isnt right

lets go back 2 silva vs sonnen, sonnen was whooping silvas ass & silva submitted him fair and square, & they were gonna give sonnen an immediate rematch until he failed his drug test, manyard & edgar had a spilt draw, already fight of 2011 nominee, & so far neither man failed their drug test, so ppl who think manyard doesnt deserve a immediate rematch r blind

I would have thought that there would be some sort of rule (or at least custom) in mma and boxing etc, that a tie in a title bout automatically results in a rematch. Perhaps the UFC should make that a rule for the future - tied title bouts result in a rematch (assuming both participants are physically able etc).

Wow. How can someone say franky did not impress him. The guy took one of the worst beatings ever and arguably won the next 4 rounds. Now if that isn't impressive I don't know what is. Frankie took a beating that 1rst round but check out both their faces after the fight. Maynard looked like the one who took the beating. Can't wait for their 3rd fight.

@hoodfigga33 "i now have 0 interest in watching edgar/pettis" Wow, this is exactly the type of crap that Dana was shitting on in this interview. People judging fights before they even happen. Edgar/Pettis has the potential to be FOTY and you wanna see Maynard/Edgar III ? Maynard had his shot, and couldn't get the W. Let Edgar move on to the next challenger.
@Loked420

the right thing to do would be to give Pettis his deserved title shot, while letting Maynard and Ben Henderson fight to determine the next shot. There is more than enough time to give Maynard an eventual rematch. The whole problem could have been avoided if Patricia Morse-Jarman had scored the 5th round correctly.

@secret212000 Dana is claiming it's not proper to judge how a fight will go down, based on the match-up, since anything can happen. I disagree. If this was not possible how could someone be a matchmaker? it would just be random selection. That most people are idiots and make judgments that piss Dana off doesn't change that quality judgments are possible, albeit rare.

@secret212000 just like machida vs shogun 1 you will have to deal with the auto rematch Gray by tko next time guaranteed he wont gass himself out next time and will pick his shots like cain and get mount.

Yea, but people...will any one of these winners get title shots? Are they now #1 contenders? Then who cares about these fighters that don't win enough for title fights, and don't lose enough to get cut

Frankie Edgar is good but so fucking boring to watch, he always runs around. The fight could have been stopped in the first round. Maynard should train with BJ and win the rematch.

@fantasticfink I'm pretty sure what you just said is biased, you are ignorant enough to come here and say edgar won every round but the 1st. What fight were you watching?

Unicorns are very rare indeed LMAO Dana didn't think that one through. He said "10-7 is like a unicorn man, some people have seen them but they're very rare" LMAO

I don't Pettis should accept any other fights until get get what was promised to him, a shot at either Maynard or Edgar. That's just my opinion and mines only.

Edgar should not have to fight Maynard again and I disagree with this decision. The belts need to be unified first THEN give Maynard the shot against the winner.
