***Fight analysis** Khabib’s pressure and threat of the takedown is like no other. Some of the very best strikers in the world have lined up to take part in what they thought would be history. The first time the Eagle would be beaten, thinking their style was the one to do what has never been done. These attempts by world class strikers have been all but neutralized, not only by his actual grappling but merely from the threat of the takedown. Getting taken down by Khabib is something that his opponents know will happen and know they almost certainly won’t be able to stop it.. or the trip. But when he is standing in front of the best strikers in his weight class, their offense is now almost a weakness. The guillotine that Poirier had was in deep and even Khabib admitted this, but he also said he knew he would get out and was playing his opponents energy. Khabib also knew Poirier would squeeze very hard thinking he had the submission and in turn Poirier’s arms would be tired and gassed out in general. You could say Khabib was lying and just got lucky but its hard to doubt this man, especially when you add to the fact that Poirier didn’t jump guard. A lot of people talk about fight IQ, or in Boxing sometimes they mention Ring Generalship. Khabib seems to fall into this category with an extremely high fight IQ no matter how you slice it. They’ve lined them up and he’s knocked them down, one by one, every last 28 of them. Poirier you are one of the best in the world, for sure at the tip top, you have a ton of class, and had your moments in this fight. Congrats Khabib you truly are the best in the world, at least for now. Congrats Dustin, on a great and honorable performance. I hope to see you both again soon. Know let’s see what’s next.
