Volk is a goddamn nightmare And I had Aljo and Chimmy. It’s going to be interesting to see how many dudes line up to fight him now. Burns is such a goddamn gangster

The most I’ve seen volk use body attacks was his sparring vs yan and his High guard
@joshleonard67722 жыл бұрын
In the Sterling vs Yan matchup, I had it 3-1 going into the 5th round. I thought Sterling had won the first round landing more strikes, in particular the body kick. Yan was missing a lot early with big shots, don't know if he was trying to hard to take off Sterling's head but it worked against him. All the other rounds were obvious in who won them. When scoring a 10-8 it's supposed to go to the clear winner, so I'd have no problem scoring rounds two and three that way for Aljo. Similarly rounds four and five should be 10-8s for Yan. In the Chimaev-Burns fight it looked like Burns had won it but it could have been some recency bias on my end since Burns was landing big late in the rounds (emphasis on BIG). Chimaev did impress the hell out of me, he's wild but has lots of potential. He was countering very well and he's actually got some real nice kicking ability, although he'll definitely need to be more defensively sound if he wants to keep winning.
@MP-vg3js2 жыл бұрын
There weren’t any 10-8 rounds in that fight, certainly none for Yan who I was rooting for. Even tho I was rooting for him I can’t argue with it going to Sterling cause he did more and threatened some serious submission in the second and third round. I never saw Yan losing this fight. Oh well.
@CipherSerpico2 жыл бұрын
You’re like the 10th person in the last hour that I’ve had to explain this to: *”Landing more strikes” has absolutely nothing to do with the Official Scoring Criteria. The quantity of strikes landed by the fighters-is irrelevant.* You can land 50 times as many strikes as your opponent-That still doesn’t win you the round. The scoring is based on the *impact/damage* of the strikes. Impact, meaning “strikes that are closer to finishing the fight”. Strikes that have more “immediate impact”-are valued more than shots that have more of an “accumulative impact”. 1 good head shot-is worth more than 5 good leg kicks, because it’s a lot harder to finish a fight with good leg kicks, than good head shots. Once again, the strikes are based on: • _The most Impact/Damage_ (immediate damage over accumulative damage) • _NOT_ the number of strikes.

@@MP-vg3js If you thought someone is a clear winner of any particular round you should score it 10-8 and 10-9 for close rounds according to the rules. I'd say 2 and 3 were clear for Sterling, 4 and 5 looked clear for Yan but Aljo had moments so maybe not 10-8 for Yan. I'd have to rewatch it but it was great to see Aljo prove he was better than that last fight.

This was actually worse for Usman than if Burns had been KO'd earlier. Now Khamzat has something to learn and work on to get even better.

I think Chimaevs time at WW is limited. He’s gigantic for 170lbs, I think he permanently moves to MW in the next 3 fights if things go his way. I think Dana, Mick & Sean know that as well, and thats just another reason for the fast track. By the time Shavkat is up around those ranks, Chimaev will be at MW.

This is the most hilarious take I've ever heard. Khamzat is much like Izzy, tall and long for 170, but walks around the same weight as most of the 170# guys. Both Izzy and Khamzat walk around smaller than Usman. Weird narrative people keep repeating

You gotta expect when a guy is as hyped as Chimaev that it's gonna go a bit the other way when he looks human in a fight people were expecting him to walk through. It's an impressive win but you can't give him a title shot off it which people were ready to before. People were talking about him beating Usman and beating Izzy before this

I had it R1: Sterling 10-9 R2: Sterling 10-9 R3: Sterling 10-9 R4: Yan 10-9 R5: Yan 10-9 Upon first watch i gave Yan first round and Sterling 10-8 second round. Subsequently, I've reduced the 10-8 and swapped the first round. Sterling landed more significant strikes in the first round, and i thought he just inched it over the line. I reduced the 10-8 because he didn't cause a lot fo damage although the control was exceptional. In general i think people's reactions are way over the top. It was an excellent fight, extremely close and hard to say who lost but the idea that it's a robbery or unjust is a dramatic overstatement
@25Dzone2 жыл бұрын
I don't wanna make excuses because Sterling rightfully won but remember Petr Yan had this fight without his corner or coaches. That's pretty damn significant. He might have been able to adjust earlier if they were around. But props to Sterling, I had him 3 to 2.

Cain beat Brock in his 9th MMA fight and Weidman beat Silva in his 10th. I think Chimaev gets viewed as impressive based on his "lack of experience" and he is impressive but he's not some outlier with low experience as it's made out to be
@Hikinggamer232 жыл бұрын
Brock had less experience then cain at that time. And anderson silva was well past his prime for Weidman. Weizmann then did not have a good career much past the silva rematch and honestly should retire while then cain lost his very next fight after Brock Lesnar to dos santos

Chimaev did great but he got hit sooo much. Both Covington and Usman hit with serious volume. The fight with Burns just made both these fights super exciting on paper. The narrative of Khamzat at 29 beats Usman at 37 was a stretch... they're not gonna fight in two years, they'll fight early next year. And Usman wins... Same goes for the narrative of this being Chimaev's "only" 11 fight. Garbrandt was champ at 11 fights.
@remycris21082 жыл бұрын
And u see what happened to him, garbrandt wasn’t ready to be champ
@MikkaBoii2 жыл бұрын
@@remycris2108 and your point is? Garbrant held the belt at 11-0. Which kind of removes the logic of Luke's point about Khamzat being so inexperienced as he is. the statement about Chimaev being inexperienced is overstaded.. he is 11-0 and is 27 years old. That's 11 solid wins. He's 27. That's not THAT young. Holloway was champ way before that age, Jon Jones was 23... Khamzat's next opponents (be it Usman, Colby or Leon) is objectively more prepared and experienced compared to Chimaev. It'll be tough. There's only so much growth you can have in 5 months.

Luke is 110% correct on Khamzat's cardio. That was the most visible adrenaline dump in recent memory inside the octagon. His cardio his fine; his nerves and energy need to be properly calibrated. If he's the fighter we all think he is (and the post-fight interview is a massive indicator of this), this fight was his diploma for a one-night Master's Degree in elite-level MMA. He quite possibly is about to level up 5-10x and that thought is utterly terrifying for anyone in the UFC whose weight is remotely comparable.
