The only division in mma that putting most or all of your eggs in one basket (99% of the time it is one-punch KO power) works to very high degree (even for slightly less skilled fighters going up against more elite ones) --- not all the time, as Ngannou showed in the Stipe I fight --- is HW division. From 205 down to 115, nobody could win more than once or twice, in at the elite level, by depending heavily or exclusively on one-punch KO. Pereira is not only the much bigger (that means the weight cut will impact Pereira more, even after a day of rehydration) but he also is the slightly taller guy, too, even if they're both said to be 6'4". Unfortunately, that means even with one day of rehydration, Alex will NOT be as optimally strong and agile as Izzy. If it is true that Alex has to come down, to 185, from his walking-around 230-ish weight, then one day is NOT enough time for the body to re-condition itself back up to that optimal equilibrium. In other words, even if Alex is back to 210+, he WILL still be much weaker than his walking around state; all Izzy has to do is effortlessly return to his 200lb walking around weight & he is optimally strong and agile. If you walk into the octagon less agile, with less body movements, fighting against Izzy.... power alone isn't going to save you. We know Alex, being so much stronger/more powerful, could KO Izzy with big, 10 ounce gloves, so logic doesn't say he's going to be more deadly with 4-ounce gloves. If you have to point that obvious out, it means you don't understand MMA; it means you're not as sharp as you think you are... Logic, however, says 4-ounce MMA gloves will help Izzy MUCH more. Being so much more sturdy and physically stronger (being, in actuality, slightly taller & bigger, despite what official stats say: look at them chin 5 inch from chin, in their stare down), those 10 - 14 ounce Kickboxing gloves --- in addition to those 8 - 10 standing counts --- HELPED ALEX survive long enough to land that one-punch KO in their second fight, despite being readily outmaneuvered, out struck, in Kickboxing (in the second fight: the first one, you could give it to Alex I have zero argument). He has none of those things, in MMA. Or, rather, none of those, even Alex has some of them (size & strength but not big gloves) ... is going to help him in mma. Alex, again, still has physicality and one-punch power advantages; but given Izzy's superior mma --- super head and body movements, superior speed and agility, superior experience fighting 5 rounds against other elite mma guys at 185, superior mma striking and kicking (which are different from Kickboxing striking and kicking, due to the RULES used in Kickboxing) ---- Izzy MORE THAN LIKELY will make the fight a relatively one-sided fight... (The "Y'all must have forgot there are different levels to this shit..." speech again...) The PROBABILITY of Izzy winning is very high, but guessing which round he will win in... is a big tougher (because if Alex is able to negate Izzy's higher win probabiliity and does get a one-punch KO win, in 1 or 2, then obviously it means Izzy winning from 1 to 5 are all muted). However, if Alex doesn't land that improbable one-punch KO in 1 or 2, then from the latter part of round 2 on, it's going to be mostly or all Izzy. And, so, Izzy could clip Alex in 2, 3, or 4. I doubt it'd go to 5 or a decision. Neither man likely would allow that. Alex KNOWS doing a mostly staring contest against Izzy, as did Romero, isn't going to win him the belt, so he WILL take more chances.... But when you take more chances against Izzy, by marching forwardly aggressively, your CHANCES of being clipped and dropped also is very high, due to Izzy's superior MMA striking, kicking, take down defense (in the clinch), his vaster experience of fighting other elite guys for 3-4 years longer than Alex, etc. Probability: 55% Izzy, 45% Alex. I picked Dustin in Connor II & III; I picked Ngannou in the Stipe II; I picked Ngannou in the Gan fight; I picked Charles in the Chandler, Dustin, and Justin fights. I picked Leon in the Leon-Usman II fight; I picked Islam over Charles. Now, I picked Izzy over Alex.... some are much more complex than others, yes... but I doubt very much the Weasel is anywhere close to my record. I know the Weasel picked Conor over Dustin II and likely III as well. I think the Weasel picked Stipe over Ngannou II and Gan over Ngannou. I KNOW for sure he picked Usman over Leon.... I also KNOW for sure he picked Charles over Islam. Further, I BELIEVED the Weasel --- like 90% of the mma fighters surveyed, plus 99% of the "analysts" and coaches, like Ngannou's coach, like Smith, like Bisping et al --- picked Charles to LOSE in the MAJORITY of the Chandler, Dustin, and Justin fights. To me, the Weasel does a very fine job EXPLAINING WHAT HAPPENS after a fight; but his ability to pick a winner in the more challenging/competitive fights... it's NOT that good.... He, like most people, hangs on to some PARTICULAR features of a fighter a bit too much, rather than relying on the LAW OF AVERAGES (of statistics). I have to admit the LAW OF AVERAGES didn't say much about the Leon-Usman II fight, because their first fight was very one-sided (and so was the second fight). But with someone with a specialty sudden ending skill like Leon --- given his primeness, his physicality, his superior speed & agility, his robustness in being able to get up time & again even after a superior and stronger wrestling kept taking him down, WITHOUT being hurt (now, over 6 rounds) --- you will be hard pressed NOT to go with him, in a tactical picking that truly is different from the masses and general stats. But after their second fight, with Usman now being over 36, with a devastating loss, from Leon, it is CLEAR Leon's chances of winning their 3rd meeting has gone WAY up (to where exactly, no one knows; but it's way up.... especially if their 3rd fight takes place at sea level). Now, we have much more data: Usman controlled Leon for over 6 rounds, as an extremely skilled, big, powerful guy and he COULD NOT put Leon out of commission. THAT says something about LEON, not Usman, because he clearly put most of the other guys out of commission (Burns, Jorge, and Colby, all very good in their own right). Personally I think Leon & Team are keenly aware of Usman's lack of grappling/BJJ maneuvers, despite his black belt and despite his elite wrestling.... So while Usman, fans, and analysts may be wasting an excessive amount of time babbling about "whether or not Leon could or would land another head-kick" blah, blah, blah..... Leon & Co, in actuality, have moved on to another surprise for Usman, a submission. Leon also is now a legit, decent black belt in BJJ... after 7 plus years of working on it (since his last loss to Silva and Usman back in 2015, when he had no TDD, wrestling, or BJJ)... He came DARN close to submitting Usman in their second meet. If Usman hadn't gotton his fingers tangled up with Leon's glove, preventing his arm from sinking deeper into Usman's neck, the fight would have ended first round! Leon has THOSE QUALITIES about him; and given how much more agile he is than most guys at 170... how much more mobile he is, with his superior height and leg reach & now his decent wrestling and very good BJJ... Leon is exceptionally deadly at 170... He will defeat Usman for the second and last time, when they meet March 2023. I know, must mma fighters and analysts WILL still go with Usman, as they did in their first and second meets... and they'd be wrong for a second consecutive time...

When I think of Izzy vs Pereira, I think of Fury VS Wilder 2. Fury knew that if he pressured Wilder, he would take a lot of his power away. We could potentially see something similar here. Plus the fact that an MMA title fight is 25 minutes compared to KB's 15, we could see Alex fade away as the minutes go by.

Wasnt the first fight between Alex and Izzy close? And in the second fight Izzy was winning until he got knocked out? So I think thats maybe why people think Israel can still win with more MMA experience. Woulda been cool to hear your perspective on how they'd implement the grappling in this fight with glover on Alex's side, and if Izzy has a speed advantage over Alex? Could Alex's weight drops be a wild card that affect his performance? And wouldn't Israel be looking out for that left hook in this fight knowing it's what he was caught with and turns out to be a huge weapon for Pereira?

Adesanya and Pereira being 155cm and 163cm is one of the funniest things I’ve seen this week Weasle, thank you! Would love to see the calculation that makes 6’4” and 6’4” different and tiny

the other thing to consider about forcing Pereira to move backward, is that it sets him up for throwing his left hook with maximum torque. it’s better for him if he throws it going backward as opposed to marching toward his target.

"Lead hooks require backward movement for max power." I learned this from johnny over at expertboxing and have never met anyone else who gets it. So many people have looked st me like in insane when I say pulling back can generate a more powerful steike in front of you, thanks for knowing this as well.
