Volkanovski's greatest asset is his ultra-instinct to survive when he is in his most vulnerable situation. If you push him to his limit, he will explode back. I wrestled in school and understand hand control, timing, leverage, etc and I was about 6' in high school. I had the hardest time taking down a guy who was only about 5'6 and stocky, and a little faster, but weighed about 15 pounds less than me.Shorter people have a much lower center of gravity and you'd be surprised(If they can grapple) how hard it is to get underneath them even if you're taller and stronger. I'm going out on a limb and saying..Volk by decision or KO !! This will be the biggest test for Islam, who has far less experience and has already been knocked out once on his feet by a guy he underestimated just like he's doing with Volk.

You seen how fast Islam passed Oliveira's guard, who has a frame similar size to himself, Alex is a smaller person so in theory should make it even easier for Islam to move into submission positions. Volk is an absolute stud and should never be ruled out though, he's p4p number 1 for a reason. Way I see it going is Volk will try to maintain his speed and will tire due to being a bigger fighting weight and Islam will hold off and go for trips and throws to increase the speed of this process and work for the finish. Can't wait it'll be a banger as I know Volk won't sit back!

Why does everyone mention Alex and his size playing rugby and then claim that he's brought that power down to featherweight? He didn't. He's won by "ko/tko" only four times in his career. That's out of 12 fights, which is a 30% finish rate. And on top of that, one of them was the "KO" against Chan Sung Jung (The Korean Zombie), which despite being a good stoppage was absolutely NOT a serious KO by any means. Volk out classes his opponents. Volk's BEST attribute is his speed. Speed and technique are by far his greatest advantages in the octagon. Wrestlers compete in weight classes. In rugby, you can be 65kg and have to defend against a 125kg guy. For 80 minutes. I don’t guarantee that Volk will win, but the size narrative is silly

Some of the best fighters are small. It's much harder to aim down at a target then aim up. Mike tyson is a great example. You can get a lot closer when your harder to hit. as for a take down it could go either way. Alex has the advantage and disadvantage tho.
