He had 5 fights and 5 minutes of experience in his first 13 months of his pro career.. and took 6 months off from competition to work on skill development.. He will fight 5 more times before a ranked opponent

I actually totally agree with BSD & Diego Lopes. They’re my two favorite new fighters making it big right now, but both are probably getting rushed into ranked fights too quickly. I can see Lopes beating Yusuf potentially, although Yusuf had a great fight against Barboza. And I want BSD to beat Poirer to add some new blood to lightweight, but anybody who thinks BSD should be the favorite is out of their mind. I don’t think either will get “fraud checked” in the way that someone like Mallot did, but I could see them both losing to high ranked opponents. They’re also still pretty young so they’ve got time to make their way up there.

@@bedtimemma yeah Lopes has a pretty full record, he’s only 29 but he’s 23-6 professionally so it’s not like he’s brand new on the scene. The chances that he has a meteoric rise are there but the chances that he gets considerably better overall is a bit slimmer, meaning if he isn’t at the top of his game now, he might not have a ton of room for improvement. BSD on the other hand is relatively new to MMA still so the fact that he’s already fighting someone like DP at 27 feels like even if he loses, he has a lot of room for improvement.
