Really? Strickland definitely got 1-2-5. The only one you actually have to look at is round 2, because 1 and 5 were so clear for Strickland. And if you look at round 2 based on the scoring criteria Strickland did edge it out. First let’s point out that Dricus’ one takedown, 22 seconds of control time, 0 ground and pound strikes, and 0 submission attempts does NOT qualify as “effective grappling” and is therefore not relevant to scoring round 2. So you only have to look at the striking. In round 2 although the stats say Dricus landed more total strikes, the stats also claim that he landed 6 leg kicks, when in reality Strickland checked all but one of them around 2 minutes into the round. So in reality Strickland landed more strikes. It was also in this round that Strickland landed the shots that closed Dricus’ eye. Dricus even said himself that he couldn’t see out of the eye in round 2 until he went to his corner. And people love to pretend that someone getting cut or swelling up isn’t relevant, even though the scoring criteria for mma clearly stats that “aesthetic damage such as cuts or swelling” does factor into the scoring of a round. Strickland landed more strikes, he landed the more damaging strikes, and the grappling was irrelevant based on the scoring criteria. So it’s pretty clear that Strickland edged out round 2. And like I already said 1 and 5 were obvious. TLDR Strickland won rounds 1-2-5 clear as day. I get I wrote a lot but scoring rounds in mma is hella complicated.

Who do you give round 2 and 3 to in the first fight? Rnd 1 - 10-9 Strickland Rnd 2 - neither landed much, nothing takedown do you score it? Old scoring definitely ddp round. New scoring a draw round? Rnd 3 - ultra close again. Ddp started stronger but Strickland finished the rnd stronger. Another 9-9? Rnd 4 - 10-9 ddp Rnd 5 - 10-9 Strickland Overall i think given that strickland had 2 definitive rounds vs 1, and being the defending champ he probably should have got the nod but i guess we needed the african title fight vs adensanya Will be interesting to see how this goes in a rematch hopefully with no outside narratives influencing the decision.
