That's as close to a win as a loss can feel like, he still proved all the haters wrong, proved he wasn't lying about his defence, and almost sparked Islam straight out with a minute to go. Best of both worlds, the divisions stay better organised, Islam wins and keeps the belt, Volk makes his point and wins the hearts of millions. Amazing fight, proud to say I watched it live kind of thing.

Holy smokes. I am incredibly shocked at Volkanovski's peformance. I though Islam would steamroll him. People say Tsarukyan is Islam's toughest fight, but after today, it's definitely Volkanovski. Volkanovski made Islam looked hittable and human. He got up and broke away from takedowns that other LW fighters couldn't do. Incredible performance by Alex. Edit: Islam also couldn't incorporate any of his judo something that he is well known for in the clinches. Alex may not have won, but he definitely layed out a blueprint for others

On a personal note, I believe Islam learnt that his grappling has a limit while Alex also learnt that his road rage voluminous strike can be checked.
