I don't know...the smart phone companies love the thinness as those back pocket phone crushers will easily crush a very slim phone when sitting instead of a reasonable sized phone so that means more sales as it's hard to repair a bent phone.

I have an Alienware laptop from 2014 and it is massively thick. Thing is it never gets so hot on the bottom that I could fry an egg. My Asus G14 from 2020 does get that hot. Neither one overheats thankfully. You can only go so thin before issues will happen.

Can't you install SteamOS on any system? I thought they had the bootloader on their site for when you need to reinstall for the steam deck. As long as the hardware with drivers for Linux, couldn't you just manually install them?

SteamOS for desktop having Steam preinstalled would be similar Chrome OS having Chrome preinstalled, except that Chrome isn't a store (at least not directly). So maybeit's more like Android and iOS having the Play/App stores preinstalled. The solution to that bit of anti-trust shenanigans seems to be "allow other stores." So maybe we'd get SteamOS with Epic launcher and EA Origin running inside it. Double (triple) launchers all the way across the drive?

Interesting making Steam OS the base OS on a desktop PC, not sure how it could ever be considered anti-competitive compared to MS or Apple or Google when the latter two cannot easily install any other OS whereas a PC is switchable at least to back to MS Windows. Plus if its truly free rather than paid for as part of the PC then you are free to install whatever other OS you want !

I think a part of the government's job should be to put forward regulations to make companies be transparent and should be to fight egregious monopolies. Suing Adobe is the right call. A processing fee to cancel your digital subscription is ridiculous, and to find out, you gotta press like several links to outside sources from the terms and conditions, making everything overtly complicated.

the lawsuit is not going to happen because this is how every service fee. if you want the cheaper price you pay for the year. if you cancel early you pay a price for that. if you didnt want it for the whole year you just pay month by month. its just like car insurance. month to month cost more than paying all at once. but when pay time comes and you need to do a month payment you lose your discount. all it is, is an incentive to pay yearly and these people broke their contracts

valve can't make steam-OS paid because its not there OS its literally a copy of arch with KDE plasma as desktop environment, + Linux kernel those don't allow distribution of the software for monetary gains, its in their license. They could however charge money if they provide an extra service on top of the OS.

The adobe cancellation should be fairly simple math to be fair to both. If you buy a year long subscription but cancel early, you do not get the year long rate for the time you used it. You get the monthly rate. So if the subscription were something like: 15/month or 120 year (effectively 10/month) .... If you cancel after 2 months you should not get back 100 dollars, but rather you should get back 120.00 - 15*2 = 90 dollars back. This way you don't get the rate you don't actually deserve. But of course that isn't the only problem, the biggest problem is likely the same as the gym membership thing that Louis Rossmann went over a while back. They do everything in their power to not allow you to cancel at all without jumping through ridiculous hoops, because they are scumbags.

Adobe is such crap. I know a lot of people that have had problems cancelling their subscription. Even people that are pretty smart and tech savy. Some even hung up on when they called to cancel. All of them having to pay a ton just to cancel when they made it that far. Not to mention their new Terms of Service you had to accept if you wanted to use their programs saying they owned everything you did on their programs and they could use it for AI training... terrible company.

I stopped buying Apple after my wife's iPad, which cost $500, could no longer have an OS upgrade. If Apple wants to win me back, they'll have to do something Cosmically radical, like have a battery door in the device which allows easy, normal replacement of the battery.
