Uganda's cheap motorcycle taxis have increasingly become a concern in the capital, Kampala. Despite being a source of income for unemployed youth, local authorities are clamping down on the industry to reduce illegal and dangerous riding.

And it’s gonna get worse. The debts they have taken will weigh heavily and they aren’t ready to leave.

Why there is traffic congestion in Kampala? Would we say alone that there are excessive number of boda-boda motorcycles or taxis on Kampal roads? Well, there are quite a number of reasons as would be highlighted below according to my observations: Firstly, there used to be poor urban planning and infrastructure which up to now can be said to have not been yet resolved fully. Kampala has grown rapidly in recent years, leading to inadequate road networks and public transportation systems. This lack of proper planning has contributed to the congestion on the city's roads. Secondly, high levels of vehicle ownership on the roads has also contributed to traffic congestion in Kampala. Many people choose to drive their own vehicles due to the unreliability of public transportation. Thirdly, poor road conditions, with potholes and other obstacles making it difficult for vehicles to move smoothly. As of now they're trying to work on most parts though that's not yet reached to the end. This can contribute to congestion as drivers are forced to slow down or navigate around obstacles. Lastly, lack of enforcement of traffic laws, leading to chaotic and disorderly traffic conditions. Many people tend to ignore those traffic lights and other road rules. This can create bottlenecks and contribute to congestion on the roads. Overall, addressing traffic congestion in Kampala will require a comprehensive approach that includes rapid investment in infrastructure, improvements to public transportation, and better enforcement of traffic laws. Additionally, efforts to address issues of unemployment and rural urban migration: decentralisation of investments which create more jobs in the city than in the upcountry side, improving schools and hospitals conditions in the upcountry to allow citizens access these right from where they are instead of travelling to the capital to look for them. There must also be trust in the local population, and encourage tĥe citizens to develop their own country. Well, the government is trying its best these days though we still need more concerted efforts.

The biggest problem is corruption and incompetent leadership. All those things can be solved if leaders did their work.

The problem is projected to increase. This is the result of corruption and nepotism. I feel sad for this country. The debts are huge, young people have no jobs except boda, and politicians keep stealing. God help Uganda.
