The quality of research is already very poor in India except in a few Institutions like IISc, IITs, JNU etc. Such decisions of rush to finish phd’s make it even worse. Top Journals with good impact factor have raised their demands and quality. Quality and Groundbreaking research needs time but who cares. People here only want degree as soon as possible.

IISc is generally good, but the average quality of PhDs is poor even in IITs and IIMs... Some Faculty/ PhD guides are good, but a large proportion of PhDs in IITs and IIMs are sub-standard.

@@satish918 Still some people are doing extraordinary work in such a low fellowship of 31k and 35k. Other countries have lots of funds so obviously have more resources. Getting into IISc and IIT through GATE exam is much difficult these days than getting into foreign universities for PhD.
