Correction: (AWD) means: All-Wheel Drive which is a fairly recent driving system which transfers power to the wheels with the most traction. The reason for Japan being a favoured import market for used cars is because one it’s a big manufacture of cars, Toyota, Suzuki, Mazda, Lexus, Subaru, Honda, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Infiniti, Acura, Hino etc & such brands are cheaper to buy & maintain including spare parts unlike other European brands like Mercedes, BMW, Jaguar, Land Rover, VW Golf, Audi etc which are all much more expensive to buy and maintain including spare parts, the other reason is because Japan drives on the right-hand side like the U.K., Uganda, Kenya, Australia, India, South Africa, Malaysia & a few others. Out of these countries that drive on the right hand side the only two counties that manufactures cars in huge quantities is Japan & the U.K. and between the two countries Japanese second hand cars are cheaper than the U.K. and also citizens from these two counties typically change cars every two years from new resulting in a big second car market for export to places like Kenya and Uganda etc!!!!

Certain things matter in used cars as well, such as mileage(how long it’s been driven), previous number of owners and if it had any previous accidents. the year of the vehicle etc. And German cars can be manufactured in Japan, or China or the US. It’s called outsourcing, that way the countries such as Japan can have German companies employ their citizens as well. The other alternative is for the country to import cars and hike import taxes. So most times it’s cheaper to manufacture within.
@ugconnect2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Byttle for this feedback
@Michealsheby2 жыл бұрын
In most African countries mileage is not important.. 😂 😂 😂 That's why used cars are branded new.
@mujunansimichael73782 жыл бұрын
You are informed about cars, why are cars expensive in Uganda, especially old models of 2008! On the website new cars cost 25000 us dollars but in Uganda old models cost nearly like new cars, why?
@byttlejuice1452 жыл бұрын
@@mujunansimichael7378 1- taxes. Kenyan and Uganda government probably charges import taxes and fees among others 2- transportation costs from Japan to Uganda 3- third parties- those who sell you cars in Uganda have to make profit too 4- insurance- in case the ship carrying the car sinks, want to minimize loses by making sure it’s insured, usually goes to transportation fees 5- If Uganda made its own cars, those foreign cars would be even more expensive, that is if the Uganda government is responsible. It encourages consumption of local products which helps employ the population, and the government makes more in taxes and keeps more money circulation in the country etc There could be other hidden fees that companies have to deal with. One way you can cut these costs is to cut off the middle man. It looks like cars sold in these lots could possibly be overpriced for their year/age
@byttlejuice1452 жыл бұрын
@@mujunansimichael7378 also older model cars produce more CO2 than newer version, so that also affects the costs. Some of the cars sold in Uganda would not make it to US market because of that
