Ruto has nothing to do with Internet progress in Kenya. For that give credit to Kibaki and then Uhuru. We have 6 undersea fiber cables and the government went further and facilitated all counties with the same. It's a huge expensive investment and that's y whenever u go you will find reliable Internet

On the finishing of houses. Kenya uses quarry stones which are basically mined. Uganda uses kiln or soil cake bricks which wear off with time in open weather and adverse climate. The Kenyan bricks don't wear away even after hundreds of years. The railway stations done in 1900 can attest to that

Loud music and graffiti in matatus became popular back in the late 80s and early 90s originating in the eastlands of Nairobi . I remember boarding among the first ones in Eastleigh number 9 and being wowed by how comfortable the seats were and how loud it was. People would wait for it at the stage and fight to get in. I even remember it was named "Baby Coach".

House finishing on the outside is an added cost. Looking at the house behind you, if it was not finished that way and gets rained on, it would look very bad over time like how walls look in Uganda. Natural stone bricks, on the other hand, remain the same over decades making it unnecessary to cover them with concrete which then requires painting. All in all, covering the outside walls with concrete and paint makes a house look much better

Great insights! The seemingly rough exteriors of most buildings in Kenya is in fact a most desired finish especially with natural stone dressing. Most folks prefer that natural feel. While others prefer that to cut down on annual cost for exterior painting if the building is in town/city. Urban bylaws requires that all buildings must be repainted at least every two years failure to which attracts a penalty!

Bricks used in Kenya are not concrete. They're a hard mined stone and when built by joining mortar become a super strong structure that stands any weather conditions over many years by itself without adding anything else. Other countries use prepared bricks say by drying soil or kilning. Such, which can also b found in parts of Western Kenya, are irregular but worst of all, wear away easily; therefore needing more plastering outside to strengthen and protect.

The enthusiastic reception and love your trio received was in response to your disposition, demeanor and attitude. It may not largely have been a spontaneous action. Your hosting family, the fans, subscribers and viewers from Kenya are people who have been following you for a while me included. You have heard of the brutal Kenyans on Twitter. Cultural things are hard to understand. That's why it's best not to dwell on them so much. Like ugali is generally liked here in Kenya. Just like you may say we're hyping it, Kenyans may also say Ugandans are hyping Matoke just because we don't like them that much. But it wouldn't be nice of us to say that because that's your cultural food and we can't judge. The same thing applies to our buildings.

Lawrence, I want you to understand something about Kenyans. We are a safe country but millennials in particular grew up in a very bad time in our history. So when Kenyans tell you that this is an unsafe place, they are telling you about their bad experiences growing up. Today's Kenya is a great place. It is safe as long as you are wise. Just be smart in the way you would be smart in any global city and you will enjoy Nairobi.

I wonder why they would say it is unsafe, yet many foreign nationals fled to Kenya in the 70s - early 90s for refuge, most notably Ugandans and Ethiopians (in their thousands literally)! They need to do some reading to learn more about their country.

@@bellaolum9768 safety is relative. We grew up in a communist dictatorship. We were protected from reality in the 80s and early 90s then reality came all at once.
