I actually sat on this video for roughly a week. It’s totally not my usual kind of video and only really decided to post it as my camera mic has died and it was still sitting in the backlog waiting to go public.

Three standouts to me when i visited Singapore in the late 80s... Signs in cabs (all Mercedes) saying "no spitting". Only Caucasians wore shorts. 9am was deadsville while 10pm was busy. Bonus thing were the ketchup bottles on the tables at KFC.

Very interesting. There are signs here in China everywhere that say “no spitting”. China is very lively at night time as well.

@@Evildea Humans are pack animals and thus, in general, individuals are good. Unfortunately, conflict occurs between packs. And pack leaders can encourage or discourage cooperation. The current leader prefers the latter.

I actually watched this video coz it came up on my feed. I pretty much came up with the conclusion that it was total BS and the next day when another one came up I clicked on hide button. With regards to the school system as a father of kids who have recently completed it here in Australia I can confirm that they do not teach them any respect whatsoever.

toki jan Evildea You might be interested in a video the channel "Veritas et caritas" made called 'Don't trust "China channels"'. There seem to be a number of Falun Gong related channels producing anti-china content. I don't know if the video in question is related to that, but there a lot of similarities
@Evildea

Never heard of those channels :/ I’ll take a look.

Speaking of spitting on the street, I once heard a thing, that this is based on some sort of belief, that it is good for health not to keep these rypes of liquids in your body and to get rid of it as soon as possible. In other words, this is some sort of a healty habit according to this belief. I have no idea how and why did it originate and is that true overall, but that's what I heard once, without living in China or researching into it. I also suppose, that it is rather a generational thing, spread basically among older ones. If I'm wrong or you know more about this, than me, feel free to correct me, I don't mind at all :D

I’ve only ever heard that from westerners explaining why Chinese do it. But then again I’ve never actually asked a Chinese person as I didn’t want to be rude. I’ll need to find out if this is true or not.

After spending too much time on tiktok I've learned what this is called: rage bait. I don't like it because it lacks substance. I'm all for a critique view of China's societal norms and customs based on actual data and deep analysis. But this video is just hate.

Hi my friend, would you be willing to make a video about how to grind through the early stages where media consumption is basically impossible to do in a timely manner? I know about 600-700 words in my TL but its not nearly enough for me to consume any content that's comprehensible and not absolutely draining. I'm quite a ways in (I learn about 10 new words a day) and its becoming so hard to continue and wondering if I'm even making progress.

The algorithm shuffled out her video to me, probably because I've been watching other Chinese content creators. Straightaway it didn't pass the smell test. I live in London, not far from the British Museum, which has bus-loads of Chinese travellers every day, along with many other nationalities. They seemed to have no problem joining the often long queues to get in. The same with spitting or other unmannerly behaviour. I see someone below mentioned Falun Gong, and I've come across their stuff before. She must have been challenged about this very thing as she made a disclaimer that she has nothing to do with them. She certainly has an axe to grind. All cultures have a less mannerly element. It's a constant with cultures that some will look down on others as being bad representatives, and hold some fantasy about a lost past where everyone was a model citizen. I don't know enough about her to say what it might be, but she is certainly motivated to give mainland Chinese a bad rep.

I’ve only ever heard of Falun Gong in passing. I saw a small protest for it a few times in Sydney. So I’ve never really looked into it beyond reading their banners. I’m now reading up on it. And you’re totally right, she’s definitely got an axe to grind :/

We have a lot of Chinese tourists in Poland in Cracow as well, I live 1,5 hr by train from Cracow and I see Chinese tourists quite often. I always confirm by eavesdropping and listening what they speak (can distinguish between the Asian big three (or four): Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Hindu), so I am sure what I hear. No issues.

I'm sure in most cases one jerk ruins it for everyone and that's a shame. As an American, part of me is glad that the world's worst tourist reputation has shifted away from us. Haha. I've never run into any shitty Chinese tourists.I do think there's an age component. I think my parent's generation (but not my parent's specifically) was maybe more interested in traveling to a country and staying in a nice hotel. Go to Mexico or a cruise around the Caribbean and never actually interact with the country. I think myself and my generation is more interested in the country itself, the people. And that does require conscientiousness. On the flip side when tourists come here I like to talk to them. Try to be a good host and a good guest. When in Rome, ya know? I remember one of the Tropico games, one of the tourists would say, "I want a hamburger!" Peak tourist energy. I think the bluntness is jarring to someone who isn't used to it. Mother-in-law: "Hi Neutrino, you're looking fat recently." Haha. Translation, "You've gained weight, are you well?" hahaa. For whatever reason, this video made me think of a certain KZbin channel that I'm pretty sure is Chinese state-supported propaganda in Esperanto. On the one hand I find it a little annoying, on the other I guess it's flattering that they think it's worth the time and effort. Maybe if we convince the US Esperanto is a battleground they'll both escalate it. Infinite Esperanto glitch lol.

@@Evildea Comment with Lucia seems to be pretty overt to me, lots of red flags (so to speak), although I've not looked at the channel in ages. Perhaps also Shanny Love Esperanto. That one isn't bad to me. She seems friendly. Mostly cultural things, food things. No real politics involved, but it does get flagged as China state-controlled media. Which I did suspect when watching. But it'd be a cool collab if you ran into her in China. I used to listen to the Chinese radio/podcast news station in Esperanto. It had such a...unique cadence to speaking. I always figured it was a tonal language speaker trying to be very rigid in a non-tonal language.
