All this talk about covers being the same as the original... We all know that Am I Evil? by Metallica kicks major ass and ballz. And we know that back in '81 and '82, their cover was exactly the same as Diamond Head's version, but Metallica favored a faster crunchier version without the "singy" vocals and the modified music for the Creeping Death single. So comon guys, modifications in covers can work sometimes. I know I prefer Am I Evil? v.2.0. and this version of Master of Puppets is in that same spirit.

Daniel Moran I wouldn't expect the same vocal range. It's Lemmy having a different voice that makes me want to hear it. He has the rough sort of growl that he does; it's for that reason that -while I think Hetfield is the better singer- I've come to prefer Motohead's version of Enter Sandman.

There is something that alo of people doesn t seems to understand. The goal of a cover isn t to reproduce to perfection a song written by another, that would be useless because you would never be able to play it like the original version. The guitar solo and Crane's voice are supposed to sound different, to make a difference between the metallica's version and their. The goal is to get a new version of the sound, with both metallica's and ugly kid joe's inspirations.

The biggest let down with this is the middle part and main solo. the iconic harmony line that middle part is kind of needed in a cover. Saying that, Crane's vocals on this are amazing, it's just a shame the rest of the cover wasn't a little more accurate.

There's a weird compression on the rythym guitar parts throughout the song that's kind of annoying. I kind of liked the solo that everyone is complaining about. It goes along with the oddness of this cover.

@Maxi S.D He's good, but Lars has much more of his own recognizable style and groove, and Castillo doesn't play this better or even close. Lars drumming on Metallica's first 5 albums (well, pretty much every Metallica album, but especially those) was as tight and perfect as you can get, and anyone who disagrees doesn't know much about drumming or rock music in general.
