It is very peaceful UNTILL someone starts shooting. One day I was peacefully sleeping and my neighbor starting shooting his semi and I dropped to the ground thinking it was a drive by in my sleep. That scared the ish out of me. haha He was drunk half the time so I often worried about stray shots. He didn't live super close but close enough to irritate me in the early morning when he deiced to shoot.

Yep, live in country. Neighbor asked how I liked it, said it was great, only thing was occasionally at midnight I’d hear all hell breaking loose and shots going off. He said apologetically “Sorry that’s me.” I asked him why he was shooting at midnight? He simply said “I drink”.😳

Ya gotta keep in mind that there are different levels of "Country" when people say "I live in the Country." I mean there's the "Country(away from cities)" and there's the "DEEP COUNTRY(Deliverance)." For example you have: "Outside Town(rural)" areas, then you have "Farms or Farmland", The "Hills", The "Woods", "Deep Woods(Ozarks)", and so on...

I live in the country right now. I just hate how far everything is. The closet grocery store is 20-30 minutes away which is pretty ridiculous. When I lived in the city it was a 5-10 minute walk to get groceries. You have to have a car which sucks and it’s a lot of more gas money in the country. I do love the scenery and peacefulness. Overall, the country has its pros and cons just like everything else.

I grew up in rural Georgia rode bicycles, motorcycles and hit all the back roads and trails. It was a great place to grow up. It was a cultural shock to go off to college and live in the city. However, like the song says, country folk can survive. Now I live a quarter mile from my small town in North Carolina and 15 minutes from a big city. I can’t go back to the country life but I can appreciate it.

Grew up in rural Alabama 23 years but have lived in KCK the last 8. I've been a bit spoiled by the convenience of things for sure. Back home, nearest town had 1 stop light. Nearest theater and "bigger city" (Tuscaloosa) was over an hour away. Just going a few meters away from home on a cart, and cell service would be non existent. Not to mention when it rained, internet going out 😂. That shit was rough. But at the same time, it was always so peaceful out there. When I visit my parents, I get some of the best sleep for those days - especially when it rains. Ideally, I'd like to find something on the outskirts of a major city to have the best of both worlds. Speaking of gun shots, I was one of them out shooting late eve/night hunting 😂 But this video is so damn accurate! Bugs, gossipy small towns (everyone knows eachother), big ass pecan trees trying to kill your ass, hrs to mow the lawn, etc. Lol

Cruza, you crack me up bro. Great vid. I need to hear it. I am lusting over some slightly more rural living myself. My problem is the country area I like is so Gucci the COST is a problem. It's very nice though and great location Near big suburbs shopping and only 52 minutes to downtown of a major city. 30 minutes to a really nice grocery w otganic etc. 10 acres on a bluff is 650k!!

Bro, experiences with the country depend on location. I lived in Nebraska and Kansas and my experience was like yours. If the nearest grocery store is over 20 min away, the property is too remote. If you are not married, it will be very boring. However when I lived in North Carolina my experience was a bit better. Not as remote and beautiful outdoors- awesome weather, mountains, woods, etc. I did feel culturally, the people look down on things like education or people from the North, so I didn't feel like I fit in, and eventually moved back to PA. Now that I'm married I may consider moving back later in life. Hope you find your sweet spot bro! Look into NC if you haven't already.
@CycleCruza

I tried to buy in the NC mountains for years, got outbid a lot. I should have bought that 10 acre property In Sylvia that I dod a video on back in 2020. That property is now worth 400k and it would have only cost me $190k back then. My problem with NC is the police, they can suspend your license for going over 15 mph no matter what state you are in if you are a NC resident.

Brother sounds like a WHOLE LOT of culture shock. I have been through it several times especially in the ARMY. Be honest with you bro, country life IS amazing but yea there's lots of challenges. Didn't even mention the mice, vols, other animals and tons of other stuff you have to do. And Yea Southern culture is VERY different from a lot of northern culture. But there's also a lot of similarity. Thing is in the South, if you're gonna stay down there as a visitor - they'll love you the whole time. If you're a northerner and choose to live there, they will be 'nice' to you - but you won't be accepted until they get to know you and how you think, and how you vote. Very inclusive environment.

its nice like you said if you can find a place without neighbors right up against your property line which is getting harder and harder to find atleast here in florida but yea when you can get a place where you dont have people up in your business and nobody to have property disputes with then youre golden. I'm Looking to get into the country and there is alot of truth to what you said. Pros and cons to everything in life. I have learned on my home search in the country adventure its very important to scout the entire area within a few miles radius to make sure the surrounding area isn't Meth Valley. Meth and property crime are a huge problem here in rural Northern Indiana. I have learned in life there are great people and scumbags in every area.

There's a big difference between country and deep country lol. I've grown up in the country my entire life, and I've lived in both. Everything you said is true, though in PA we don't have the scorpions lol. Where I live right now we have a neighbor with a junkyard in his front yard. It's unsightly but you trade that for freedom - we don't have to deal with the HOA stuff (which I dealt with as well). Now, difference between country and deep country - we have a Walmart and Home Depot 15 minutes away. Ten minutes of the drive is farms and country, then you hit civilization. As for trees, we don't have pines on my property (though I grew up with pines) - they are tricky - but not nearly as tricky as the ash trees that all died from those beetles - they snap about 10 feet up and out of nowhere - three years in and I'm still trying to cut down the ones that are still standing. City life is too busy for me, I love the country - but I've grown up in the country and I wouldn't trade it for anything. You show your house you had in Georgia and I just sit there thinking - yep, I'd love that place lol. Mowing stinks, but that's why you get horses and goats and put up some fence :-).

I was born and raised in a large city in the suburbs. Suburbs are kinda boring most of the time, especially if you don't have a vehicle. Living in a downtown or high population area is actually a lot better because there are all sorts of cool spots to see and clubs to go to. There are musicians, cafes, art galleries, etc. In the city you can easily drive out into the suburbs if you have a vehicle, and even out to the highway and country for a cruise or even a weekend camping trip. The nice thing about visiting the country is if the bugs are bad you can just move along or go someplace else next time. I laughed at the house full of scorpions. But, I also can sympathize with the country small town life you described. I lived in two small towns so far, one was very rural and had all the strange problems you talked about. Boredom, drugs, gossip, cliquey people, junk in yards, etc. I now live in a small town that seems a lot nicer. People here are pretty neat. There are two symphony orchestras nearby, and from what I've experienced people are more like larger city folk. They are friendly like country people but they mainly keep to themselves and they don't seem to gossip much. There are a lot of LGBTQ++ types and there seems to be almost no bias or nasty treatment of them. Everyone is welcome around here... Even the Harley guys around this area are friendly enough to have a coffee with and some light hearted roasting chat. I've been watching your videos for years, and I agree with you most of the time on most topics. Keep up the good work Cycla Cruiser. I almost wish you lived closer so we could maybe go for a ride and coffee. LOL

you must have gotten a bad area. i left the city (toledo, ohio) to get away from the crime. i moved about 45 minutes away to the south west and those worries went away. schools are much better, people leave you alone (unlike in the city) and im 4 minutes away from our little town and 15 away from bowling green (where they have pretty much everything). i only have about 2.5-3 acres, but maintaining it is time consuming. it takes me like 1 1/2 hours to mow and trim it. been here over 17 years now, and it was the best decision we made.

I assume Ashland is big enough to have most anything you need and he is like 4 miles from town and on a side street just off the two lane Highway .. Michigan is so boring all straight roads.. OH has a lot of curvy roads.. Horse poop is really slippery for a motorycle .. however.. road Apples

@@mikeskidmore6754 You are correct about Michigan and the straight roads for the most part. If you have a dual sport street legal and licensed you can ride many country roads in the counties just outside of Detroit Metro that are fun to ride. Otherwise, Ya have to go above Bay City. Many forest roads north of Bay City, and if one buys an ATV tag, one has almost unlimited fun available in the Northern Lower and Upper Peninsulas on a dual-purpose bike.

Hey if you ever reconsider another piece of property down here. From Knoxville to Chattanooga is epic areas. Plus we have all the hills and curves. You can hit the cities and go full blown urban hooligan. Just a thought for you. But the insects are everywhere here. The scorpions are really nothing to be concerned with. The brown recluse/ fiddleback/ brownie or any other slang title for it…. That’s a concern in southern states.

I live rurally now going on five years and it's got a lot of up side, but I don't know if I'd do it if I was single. My wife and I keep each other occupied, otherwise I'd go stir crazy. Bugs are real, we have a month or two every year where being outside is just not fun and I have to keep up doing my own spraying and pest control. Mice are unavoidable and maintaining a rural property is real work just to keep the woods from overrunning the property. I really dislike being on top of other people so this life suits me best but it certainly isn't for everyone. As you get older there is a safety aspect too as far as where a hospital is or if your roads are closed from snow etc. As far as security, dogs and guns are your police department. I have infrared motion sensors and cameras too. Motion activated lights etc. Once word gets around town that you are locked down, you aren't on the top of their list anymore. You can't know unless you take the leap and live in different places and that is the adventure of life.

Benning, GA and Ft. Drum, NY. No thanks! Anyway, I agree with most of what you said, but HOAs are always a pain in the ass and never a good thing for the homeowner. In fact, one of the challenges in modern homeowner-ship is finding a nice home without an HOA. In terms of property cleanliness, just live in a nice enough area where people have enough sense and taste to keep their properties neat and tidy.

If you're born and raised in a city, you need a longer break in period when you go live in the bush/rural areas. I'm born and raised on a farm, and then lived in cities as an adult, but now moved further out in a regional city with close access to open spaces. I think living in a regional city is where its at, eg sub 150k population... Low traffic, access to good twisty roads, less bugs in the city, etc. You are not allowed to go hunting in Oz without owner permission on private property. Hunting is very low scale in Oz compared to US. Yes, the bugs is a real thing, but mostly in summer period. We don't have scorpions in Oz, but we have plenty of spiders, and some are deadly. But you can self fumigate inside just for the summer period with those cannister cans rather cheaply. In winter you won't see many if any bugs. "bless your heart" is a funny one though! haha

If I ever get another country property it will be just outside the city but still close to everything, however, it is much more expensive when you are closer to the big city. Also, I forgot to mention that you'll worry about your well drying up or the well pump going bad not to mention septic tank issues that can be quite costly. My neighbor's well dried up because he did not realize his well was a shallow bored well and the area went through a little drought. He had to pay 15k to drill a well and hope for the best. I let him use my well because I was in Ohio at the time, and I worried he was going to dry up my well but mine was drilled down to the aquifer.
