This video will show you how RFID systems work in industrial applications to track transport equipment. RFID readers on rail lines and in shipping yards/ports keep track of container movements and locations.

I found one of these things half out of the grey shell in our yard obviously somebody drove too close to the train car and scraped It off. I ended up picking it up from the ground throwing away the gray shell and bringing the PCB home. Before I saw your video I thought that the programming port where the contacts of a rotary switch that somehow got lost. Your video answered every single question that I had about the Amtech RFID that I found. Also the TTC which is the transit authority in Toronto has put these RFID in between the rails of the subway to determine speed and location of the train as part of their ATC automatic Train control. Thanks for taking the time.

Glad I could help. When trains went caboose-less a device called a SBU was attached to the knuckle of the last car of the train. It also had a tag for tracking but it contained a battery. Check out this video near the very end to see the inside of this type of tag. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJ6XoYSQgqeIjaM

Not really interested in rail..... and a very minor interest in Arduino. Arduino mostly because it makes it easy to control things that would be difficult to do with a computer. The rail PCB mostly because if I am walking on the street and see a PCB maybe from a run over cell phone or what ever for fun I will research the chips by number to see what it was.

Congrats for the video. Do you some open source projects to build an UHF RFID tag with discreet components, similar to this one? How can we build a simple interrogator ?

Waw thank you a lot, nice video! Do you know if it's possible to use a smartphone for detecting through 10 meters a UHF RFID (using wifi frequencies)?

Very well explained. Could you recommend good books to read on Radio and electronics ?
