Normally, the cardamom sold in grocery store is 'too dry' so that the seeds are not viable. To grow from seeds, the cardamom should be fresh and green -- and that is very hard to obtain. But when you are indeed able to grow them from seeds, it takes about 4 years for the plant to produce cardamom pods.

Note that Cardamom never grows from grocery bought spice cardamom seeds. Cardamom seeds only germinate from fresh cardamom. And cardamom is the most difficult plant to grow after Strawberry.

approximately 3 years Cardamom requires approximately 3 years of growth to produce capsules containing seeds. After the flowers mature, they will gradually dry out as capsule develops. These can be collected when capsules begin to turn green, and later dried on screens over the course of 6-7 days

Has anyone tried successfully? What I heard is cardamom doesn't grow in all weather. That is why you don't see cardamom plantations every where. Pollination is also important. Even if the plant flowers, no cardamom seeds will come. I guess it is just a video for fun..

Cardamom originated in Kerala, India, Arabic people's used to came Kerala from BC for trading cardamom and other spices which they like too much . You can cultivate cardamom anywhere but season is very important. Mansoon season is preferable, if you are living in hill mountain areas also be preferable
