We are Corrin and Paul and we travel Europe in our Motorhome with our two intrepid travel hounds Dolly and Pippa!
At the moment while we wait for our schengen allowance to reset we have taken a trip in the UK to uncover the costs of motorhoming in the UK.
This week we take a trip to a CAMpRA accredited aire in West Wales, do they provide good value , are there enough of them to give the UK motorhomer what they need?
Stay with us to the end where Corrin performs a deep dive into some alternatives and cost comparisons
this weeks what3words is

The site we visited was
Aberystwyth RFC

Yeah, I have a piece of land I'm considering allocating a section of to a Campra Aire. I can't do any planning because of a covenant on the land, but Campra has an exemption for up to 5 vans. I need to look at putting infrastructure in though. I'd like to offer fresh water top-up, and grey and black disposal at a service bay. I need to figure out the logistics of getting that in. The other issue is granting access. It's a field with a grass-crete road through it. It's also kind of remote? It's very close, pretty much adjacent to my factory, but we close at 5pm and weekend so I could do with a way of taking payment remotely and granting people temporary access. Haven't really figured out how to sort that out yet. My perception is that if I can't offer the service bay it's only fair to charge £5 per night. If I CAN offer the service bay then I think most people would be happy at £10 per night. Where it is, I don't think it'd be swarming during the summer, it'd be a handy stop-off in an area that people might pass through to get to proper tourist honeypots.

There is always a demand for what you are offering ! Even up to 5 vans people will appreciate, I’m sure there is a lot to consider, and having water and waste is a big plus point , ehu isn’t in such demand with being able to stay off grid for longer, but if you achieve your goal, it’ll soon pay for itself and more ! Good luck and I hope it works out ❤️

Haven’t read all the comments to this vlog, however, The Camping and Caravanning Club offer CS locations (usually farms etc) where it’s a cheaper option. £15-£25 p/u/n. The club sutes themselves are cheaper than the Caravan club operated sites too, starting at around £25 pun. No extra charges for your awning or the second person in the ‘van’. There’s also weekend meets or holiday meet’s organised by the various District Associations, they can be anything from £10-£25 pun, depending on facilities at the location. We’ve just returned home from a Derbyshire holiday site (just a field with freshwater tap and an Elsan point for £11 pun! Can’t beat it!!

Interesting video, I don't have a motorhome, but use a car to camp, and have checked out the websites listed, shame so many sites do not approve of "car camping"

I have experience of helping a good friend who has a coach company with a large hard surface carpark, he attempted to get into the aires game but experienced hostile objections to planning amongst the local population. I tried to help him with it but we just hit a brick wall with the council concerned, which is undoubtably a major factor concerning the lack of aires in the UK. The biggest concern amongst local authorities is that the aires will just turn into freebie attractions for large groups of Irish gypsies in the spring and summer months.

Favourite You Tubers 🤪🤣🥰 Aberriswith looks lush 🥰 Aires are the way forward definitely, I mean we love a view but when your visiting a town it’s about the place not where you park and as long as it’s safe and you have the facilities we’re definitely all for it, we don’t use showers wherever we camp we use our shower in the van 🚐 great research and very interesting xxx 😘 😊

In the UK planning permission is needed to set up an Aire so not as easy for a local rugby club etc to do. A CL doesn’t need planning provided it has an exemption certificate supplied by one of the larger camping clubs. The law and culture is different in Europe. Personally I have no desire to sleep in a car park.

Very strange people consider £98 to stay near the centre of York for 2 nights a rip off. Depends on what you compare it to surely. A hotel would cost at least £150 a night plus extra to park your car. Personally I ‘d prefer a campsite with full facilities rather than a car park if I was staying more than one night.

Hey guys 👋 another fabulous video, we think Campra Aires are a brilliant idea, really like the idea of putting a bit of money into a local club, plus most Motorhomers are really responsible and leave no trace. Loved the York comparison as we lived there for 2 years, would go with the Campra for sure...love this series, great work ❤ 🤩

Pretty tired of being fleeced for everything in this country. A nice quiet 'wild' camp for me and if I get fined or asked to move on, well thats part of the game. Dont worry, i am very considerate as to where and how I park up. And I'm happy to pay for a service but £10 is the max for me (off grid) - bearing in mind i am in the van 3 weeks out of 4.

Ftr I've never been fined for overnight. But I have had a couple of parking tickets because the van is not contained within 'fully' within the parking space (because it doesn't fit). And I've only been asked to move on once, and that was at my office car park where my boss is one of owners (the guy didn't know I am allowed)

While Aires are a step forward at £28 pound are far to expensive in my opinion. France even with the crossing is far better . Most of the time we get free Aires. They appreciate us going into the local towns and supporting the local shops. The trouble with sites in Britain is we are getting ripped off and you can guarantee prices will only go up never down. If we have a short break in Britain we use CLS but even those are getting crazy. We drive a VW camper so hardly use any electric but get charged the same as a van the size of a coach with everything switched on. Love the channel guys thanks for letting me get that of my chest lol.

Have only ever stayed in the UK over lockdown, but when we did if you put in the leg work the UK has plenty of value park ups, never used campra but definitely would as they supply what you need for what looks like a fair price, pitch up used it a handful of times in Europe and I'm a fan, I like that if your date's on the site you've chosen are not available, it automatically tells you the nearest that are., Another enjoyable vlog keep them coming 👍
