What if the lorry in front had to stop suddenly for any reason? And why on earth would they not brake when they saw the idiot driver trying to squeeze in front? The Highway Code changes from over two years ago say that people in charge of the most dangerous vehicles have the greatest responsibility to reduce the risk they pose to others - that applies in this situation too.

It wouldn’t have cost you about 3-5 seconds on your journey time to take the foot off the accelerator for a second to ease off and let the car in. No collision, no one’s life potentially at risk (just so you can prove a point) and everyone gets on with their day. With the HGV in front of you, you are travelling far too close to it and should have been slowing your speed to increase braking distance anyway. I'm not sure if 0:45 is _entirely_ the drivers' fault. If you're next to a merge lane, you need to be extra aware of surroundings and your peripheral vision game needs to be stronger. While the car may not even been in a visible position, the (presumably) artic driver should have known it was there and backed off the throttle. That said, why would you cut in front of an artic if you're not fully ahead? 1:45 was always going to end badly since Vauxhall's have no handling and the driver was newly qualified, although I'll give them a couple of marks for effort.
@Floris19934 ай бұрын
At 0:45 it is 100% the fault of the car driver. There is never a good reason why you should steer to a different lane when you can see there is already another car or truck driving next to you.
@mickshrimpton14 ай бұрын
Absolute cobblers. It is entirely the driver's fault. Hope you don't have a driving licence.
@Bercilakdehautdesert-yt1gd4 ай бұрын
I don't know if you've driven a truck but seeing anything less than Transit van height in your front quarter is pretty tricky. The dashcam will probably be attached to the screen and have a completely different viewpoint to that of the driver. I've never driven an Artic but did drive a 16 ton water wagon many moons hence, and managed to obliterate a canal bridge wall simply because I couldn't see it, and yes, that was my fault but in this case I don't see how the truck driver could have known chummy was sitting where he was.
@Michelle_Schu-blacka4 ай бұрын
@@Bercilakdehautdesert-yt1gd I get you. But as a modern HGV driver, there's so many mirrors (despite the fact you only really pay attention to the wing mirrors). My point was that the HGV driver should have been aware of the presence of the car and been keeping an eye out. Obviously we don't know all the facts aside from the car driver cutting in front of an artic despite not being fully ahead. But it gets tricky because there's more responsibility on you than the car driver. I remember seeing an incident where a driver blasted round the outside of an artic on a roundabout, then cut up the driver and caused a collision. The artic driver was somehow deemed responsible, even though there was no way they could have known the driver would do that. In this case, there's a good case that the artic driver could have anticipated this if they were aware of their surroundings. The artic driver is nowhere 100% at fault. It's just a question of how the incident will be adjudicated by the Traffic Commissioners office.
