The UK's decision to bar the return of Asma al-Assad, the wife of Syria's President Bashar al-Assad, amidst ongoing sanctions reflects a broader stance against the Assad regime, known for its brutal repression of Syrian citizens. Asma al-Assad, despite being portrayed by some as a modern and glamorous figure, has been accused of aiding and abetting her husband's violent regime, especially through her high-profile role in supporting policies that led to the deaths and displacement of millions. Her involvement, particularly in charity work that seemingly masks the regime's atrocities, has drawn widespread criticism. While her position as a mother and wife may evoke empathy from some, the destruction and suffering caused by her husband's actions cannot be overlooked. For many, her status is irrevocably tied to the ongoing horrors of the Syrian conflict, and thus, she should not be allowed to return to the UK, where sanctions are aimed at holding accountable those complicit in such crimes...

"We said 'NO' because Assad is a butcher". "We said 'NO' because Assad is a drug dealer". Direct and succinct. Love it!

She’s a U.K. citizen so I don’t know on what grounds she can be barred from entering her own country. Multiple dual citizens from the Middle East convicted for crimes are granted the right to stay despite their sentence to be deported from the U.K. Why would her case be any different ?

No country should deny entry to one of its citizens born there.
