People ask, "sum up Hinduism in three words". Hindu texts themselves provide aphorisms which satisfy such queries, like: 1. tat twam asi (you are that), in Chandogya Upanishad. 2. aham Brahmasmi (I am Brahman), in Brihadaranyaka Upanishad. 3. tena tyaktena bhunjitha (renounce and rejoice), in Isha Upanishad. 4. satyameva jayate (truth always triumphs), in Mundaka Upanishad. I would humbly like to submit another reply: Shunya, Ananta, Advaita (Zero, Infinity, Non-duality).These three concepts are not just central to Hinduism, but are arguably its greatest gift to humanity. There's a reason why only the Hindu civilization could come up with all three of these concepts. Some civilizations have come close to two out of these three, namely Zero and Infinity, but their conceptualizations have been superficial. Zero is not just an arithmetic placeholder in Hinduism, but originates from a spiritual/philosophical inquiry, and is widely used metaphysically. Also, there are various types of infinities in Hindu thought. However, no one has yet come even close to the third concept, that is Non-duality (although modern physicists are getting there), because it requires us thinking beyond everything that we experience. Zero, Infinity and Non-duality. The more one contemplates on them, the more they seem similar. It's like looking at the same object; just that from one angle, it looks like Zero, from the other, like Infinity and when the viewer is the view itself, the object (which is the subject too) looks like Non-duality (which is reality). I've often wondered, "what is real?" , "how/where/when did it all start?" I even tried listening to Penrose's thoughts on it but got confused. However, one thing makes sense to me; that as long as one stays within the confines of causation and mathematics (mathematics being the ultimate abstraction of causation), one can never satisfactorily answer the origin/beginning question, as one is bound to get stuck in a regressus ad infinitum (How did it start? With the Big Bang. What caused the Big Bang? The 2 Initial boundary conditions. What caused the initial boundary conditions to exist? The previous big bang... and so on). In fact, the question is itself wrong, as it presupposes causation and a dual reality (which is the result of causation). There is no beginning nor end, neither here nor there; there is nothing yet everything. Reality isn't the 4 dimensions of space and time or any further dimensions, as they too would be within causality. Matter, energy, light, particles, waves, strings, dimensions... these are all just concepts that exist only in the imagination of the ultimate reality. This imagination of the ultimate reality, the Hindus termed Maya. It is nothing, yet everything. To understand this, you don't need funding or experimentation, or even education. You just need to close your eyes. The reason why the Hindu civilization could come up with these concepts is because Hindus realised that reality is not what our senses perceive.
