Driving in Britain will open up a whole new series of possibilities, as you’ll be able to explore off the beaten track and not have to rely on public transport to discover the best of what the country has to offer.
All speed limits in Britain are in miles per hour not km/h, and the limits change depending on the kind of vehicle, and area, you are driving in. For example, the national speed limit for cars and motorcycles is 70 mph (112 km/h) on a motorway or dual carriageway. If you’re towing a trailer or caravan however, the speed limit is reduced to 60 mph (96km/h).
How about insurance?
In Britain, it is compulsory for all vehicles to have a minimum of third party insurance. This means that if you are in an accident, your insurance will cover any damage you cause.
Take out comprehensive motor insurance before you start driving for a higher level of cover. If you are in an accident, this type of insurance will cover any costs that you may incur such as damage to your vehicle.
What to do in case of an accident?
If you have an accident while driving in Britain, you must stop if there is damage to property, another vehicle, or if an animal or a person is injured, regardless of the severity of the collision. If anyone with reasonable grounds to do so requests your personal details such as name, address or insurance details, you must provide them.
Watch out for the speed cameras, they seem to be all over the place and we all see a sneaky speed camera van.
