UK economy: recession fears as inflation still bites

Inflation: the enemy which Rishi Sunak pledged to “face down” by the end of year - looks to be going nowhere fast, according to data released today, risking growth in the UK economy and sparking fears of recession.
(Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
8.7% in the year to May - no change from April's figure - represents more pain for struggling households.
And with the Bank of England expected to hike borrowing costs again tomorrow to try and curb inflation, there are warnings mortgage holders could be facing an even bleaker outlook.

In these uncertain times, it's more important than ever to have a solid understanding of how to manage your finances, invest wisely and navigate economic downturns. But my primary concern is how to grow my reserve of $240k which has been sitting duck since forever with zero to no gains, sure I'm all in on the long term game, but with my savings are lying waste to inflation and my portfolio losing gains everyday, I need a remedy.

We experienced the peak of our era, and now it is gone. Recession is tanking everything including 401K. My retirement equities portfolio of $750K is in the reds. I keep losing because of inflation. This world will fall to the corrupt rulers in the same way that Rome did. I'm sorry if you're thinking about retiring and you're worried that your pension won't be enough to meet the rising cost of living. Horrible foreign policies everywhere, bad regulatory policy, bad fiscal policy, and bad energy policy.

Investing in stocks with notable fluctuations is not the only way to achieve substantial returns. Rather, it centers on the efficient management of risk in relation to reward. You can gradually move closer to accomplishing your financial objectives by sizing your positions correctly and taking advantage of your advantage frequently. This idea holds true for all types of investing strategies, including day trading and long-term investing.

The issue is most people have the "I want to do it myself mentality" but not equipped enough for a crash, hence get burnt, no offense. A strategy to protect against inflation is through the U.S stock market, especially the S&P500 & various ETFs. Investors must know where to put their money and how to distribute it in order to protect it against inflation while still making a profit, especially during a recession.

We are already in the big crash, Inflation is a catastrophe. This CPI report is a colossal failure. To bring the housing market to a halt, the FED will have to pull all the stops. The unfortunate issue is that other markets are being decimated. If you want to stay green, you have to rely on a lot of diversification. Currently up 14% and being careful. Still a better deal than leaving it in a savings or checking account yielding 0-1 percent interest.

Inflation is gradually going to become part of us and due to that fact any money you keep in cash or in a low-interest account declines in value each year. The average person has never been so poor. Millions of families are struggling financially as living expenses hit the highest levels in more than four decades. Over 60% of our country lives paycheck to paycheck and about 40% earns poverty wages. Even after working all their lives, more than a quarter of older people have no savings and many believe they will never be able to retire in dignity, while around 55% of elderly people try to survive on an income of less than €25,000 a year.

Some economists have projected that both the U.S and parts of Europe could slip into a recession for a portion of 2023. A global recession, define as a contraction in annual global per capita income, is more rare because china and emerging markets often grow faster than more developed economies. Essentially the world economy is considered to be in recession if economic growth falls behind population growth.

We’ve become a country of credit, shopping, eating out and services whilst our exports and high tech. sectors have been in decline and the cost of imported goods is on the rise. This problem arose is 2008, but with £870 billion of QE the government has managed to prop up our unsustainable economy for a decade or so. Now they’ve nowhere to turn, and the country has de-skilled itself in STEM high skill professionals. This will only end badly, mass unemployment, poverty , emigration of high skill workers to the US and EU, will take several generations, political reform and re-joining the EU to put right, for now the UK is fast becoming a poor counrty.

The problem with the bank of England and the political class is their trying to avoid a recession! We need one badly and a hard one. More we need a few decades of deflation. Recession is not a bad thing, most barely notice it, any more than they notice growth. Rates have cheated decent solvent poorer people for 2 decades and they did it deliberately. Continually trying not to raise them back where they belong. We must stop intending to run the economy by those needed debt to do it. Rates must double at least and banks be compulsorily made to pay it to savers too. A good long hard resection, shaking out the junk companies and activities releasing workers to end the shortage and excessive wages we now pay. Realistically inducing a recession and increasing interest rates will ultimately mean people's quality of life is reduced, but it won't actually solve the issues that caused the situation we're in. Surely increasing the access to energy i.e through the expansion of solar would reduce inflation or enhancing automation is certain sectors. I know these are maybe longer term goals but he govt doesn't seem to discuss them at the same tim

I'm trying to avoid making any new buys at this point in order not to get sucked into a bear trap, tho I read an article of people that grossed profits over $150k this 2nd quarter, wondering what could be the best stocks to put on a watchlist for capital gains, both in a bull and bear market
