Good luck with that. There are now too many people in this country who have mixed loyalties and we all know who I mean. People make me laugh when they call for National Service to be reintroduced. In those days, which I am old enough to remember, we were all moving in the same direction, post-war, and it was men only who were called to serve. That can't be any more. We have equality in the eyes of the law, so women would have to serve too! Does that include men or women who can still only string a few sentences of English together? Or those with political alliances to many other countries, globally? So, government would be faced with asking white anglo-saxon men and women to go and fight for a huge proportion of the population who are relatively recent in-comers to this country, because they won't be suitable recruits!

If the MOD gave an assurance that volunteers could choose to join to defend the UK itself, and not to be used in aggressive campaigns overseas based on dubious causes, this would massively encourage recruitment. If we were attacked, here, most of many young people's reservations would evaporate and we would be ready to stand up and fight for our communities.
