UK Gladiators - Series 3 1994 - Episode 8 - Heat 8 - 29th October 1994
Rowan Duxbury (Full time mother from Sidmouth, East Devon) versus Lisa Gibbs (Lifeguard and heptathlete from Caerphilly, Gwent, Wales)
Richard Barnett (Chartered physiotherapist from Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire) versus Matt Beeke (Telephone engineer from Epsom, North Surrey)
Notes: Rowan Duxbury has a chance of coming back and taking part in Gladiators due to her absence of being poorly from the previous series.
Duel has a base of appearances in Heat 8 in an event line-up in the next series onwards which is played in the eighth Heat and its sixth appearance which was meant fourth or fifth appearance.

So to summarise what i meant by Shadow having a bad few weeks in the Episode 6 thread-He lost his long-running record on Duel, Then lost to Paul Beswick in Pyramid in Episode 6, Lost to Paul Field in Hang Tough in the previous episode and then this at 38:04

Shadow admitted that he was on a lot of drugs around this time. Apparently during this season he was testing positive for cocaine and steroids. As we know, he wasn't invited back for season 4.

I've always felt that this episode featured 2 very likely finalists but fate had other plans: - Lisa Gibbs got hurt and withdrew before the quarters. - Matt Beeke ran into Paul Field in the quarters. The ideal final would have been Lisa vs Eunice and Matt vs Paul.

Three points to make: 1) Shadow was unfairly beaten imo. He still #1. 2) Lightning showed on Pursuit why she (along with Jet tbh) is the perfect athlete. 3) Rowan Duxbury has the most incredible ass.

Pretty poor performance when the gladiator chasing you gets blocked out so completely by the other players and you still only manage 6 points.

true point, and also i noticed that in the international series, the same year, that all the male contenders in blue would win in all the heats until the 2ns semi final, where paul field was the only male contender to win in that series as well!!

I did also notice that in the Ladies PURSUIT Lightning went the wrong way round the cone after the Snake-Beam so that would've been a DQ in the International Competition! So it would also be either 5 or 10 POINTS to Lisa, I'll let you decide which it should be

If penalties were introduced for Pursuit these would be the scores for the event. For the Girls:- Rowan had 3 PENALTIES on the Snake-Beam but was caught so 0 POINTS, Lisa had 3 PENALTIES (1 for the Snake-Beam/1 for the Wire-Bridge/1 for the Hand-Ladder) but was also caught so 0 POINTS. For the Boys:- Richard had 1 PENALTY on the Snake-Beam so would score 4 POINTS, Matt had 1 PENALTY for Not Touching The Very End of The Snake-Beam so would score 9 POINTS.

Honestly, if someone falls to their knees or the seat of their pants in Duel, I'd give them 3 seconds to get back up - 5 tops.

In my opinion Shadow slipped onto his bottom and it did take him more than 3 seconds to stand up again, plus during it he wouldn't be able to defend properly so I felt it was a fair victory for the contender on this occasion.

Plus in all fairness Shadow did step too close to the edge of the podium, that's why his foot slipped.

The decision does pose questions as in Series 5 the contender was given the DQ by putting hands on his own podium to remain balanced not touching the opponents podium. I'm wondering if slipping in DUEL like Shadow did counts as him losing balance.

I did wonder which events did Rowan Duxbury do in both series 2 and series 3 so I checked Wikipedia. She did Atlaspheres, Power Ball and Duel in both series.

I think it's because Rowan went out for illness, not injury. Simply bad luck. But then there was a male contender last series who also went out for illness, did two events in a heat but then stopped for a virus he'd picked up... wonder if they invited him too but he turned them down? o.o

They literally stated it at the beginning. Don't you guys listen? Rowan pulled out due to illness outside of the competition. The other contenders injuries occurred during competition so they are not eligible to return. And the guy that got sick pulled out during competition as well, not outside competition.

@@Kat-mu8wq I compared this season to previous seasons and those platforms are definitely further apart. That seems to have completely thrown Shadow because he's having to over extend with the power he puts behind his blows which is throwing him off balance. Technically Shadow still hasn't been defeated by the contenders, only by himself. His first defeat he over extended trying to reach the contender and fell forward without being touched. And this one he stepped a little bit too close and slipped off the platform. Which by the way he was down for less than 3 seconds before it was called... wtf? Didn't even have a chance to stand up. Meanwhile contenders have been down for around 10 seconds and it doesn't get called. I dunno... just seems like a very quick call to me.

It was revamped for Series 4 & 5, but only appeared a few times. I honestly don't know why they got rid of it either.

it was probably coz it was an event that worked better for the contenders instead of the gladiators, coz usually the contenders would beat the gladiators in the pursuit course, coz the contenders would usually have an advantage, with them being lighter than most of the gladiators, and also when they changed the rules the series after this, the contenders would easily loose points by missing the yellow corners on the snake beams, and missing rings on the hand ladder, so from that point of view, the producers probably would have found it easier to axe the whole event, but it was still a fun game to watch though :)
