That’s the best case scenario (for those countries, and very unlikely). The likeliest outcome is that Europe will go down with the US because the U.S. appears to have bought the governments somehow - just look at the Germans today - bar a few very small countries like Hungary, Serbia, and Slovakia, which the US will try to regime change in short order.

In the 2008 financial crisis China realised they could have been saddled with trillions of worthless US treasury bonds, buying UK gilts today is no different when it comes to risk.

If yields drop then the bonds increase in value. It is high now, so there is scope for it to reduce given the right conditions.

Actually it was the trading relationship with the US that would suffer the most. The treasuries were never in question since interest payments on the debt could still be met. Today that's a different story since US debt now costs 1.3 trillion in interest payments annually...👀

The fed does not buy Treasury bond. It just prints money and throws it to treasury with a statement....loaned. It is nonsensical. By doing that, the Fed not only creates inflation but increases the American debt. It is a false accounting method.

They did during covid. And are holding the "bags" ( losses) Now they are selling and the UK government will cop the losses, as they are the guarantor . UK Parliament should order them not to sell. If they keep selling in the way that they are, No country will buy UK Gilts, therefore the government cant raise cash, then NHS, Education , public services, etc, etc gets defunded and taxes will rise to get that cash. Basically this is the whole reason why they are visiting China........Please buy our bonds/ Gilts. The answer will more than likely be " Are you out of your mind. The joint is a basket case"

There is one huge thing China can do for us where we put business their way, and that is HS2. We could hand the entire contract over to MTR and get it built very well, but they would need to bring in their own technicals and managers.
