So the other day I watched episode 4 of the USA Inbetweeners and it was probably the weirdest - so I thought I'd review it lol haha ex dee!

One thing about Greg Davies who played Mr. Gilbert in the UK version had actually been a teacher and thus actually knew what being a teacher was like.

@@wetlettuce4768 Actually in the extras of the the inbetweeners the uk version he does say that he more or less just act how he wish he could, but he also mentions that he believes that Mr. Gilbert cares in his own way about the characters, which i personally think is real cool.

@@aleksander1492 If you notice, most of UK Gilbert's hatred is towards Will which is because of their first interaction in the first episode. Plus it's Will, he's a pretty unlikable character. Gilbert is actually quite fair towards the other characters. He gives them shit, but not as much as Will. I like to think that he does so because he's trying to toughen Will up. You can see his caring side come out after Will shits himself in the exam.

i think the biggest thing about this is that the uk version is relatable. everyones friend group has the inbetweeners in it, im will and im friends with a simon, a neil and a jay. i dont blame the americans tho for making it not relatable. thered be an emily she/her, the wannabe rapper, quiet kid and future army soldier. pick one or two of them to be fat and you got american inbetweeners

The US version is more like a movie or a action series but the UK film and series seems more realistic because there is no special cuts or background tracks which makes it more relatable to a British life or school life.

I agree. The US version has a sort of Hollywood shine to it, everything is full of colour and it makes everything look a bit more lively, whereas the UK version is really drab and gray, and everything just looks miserable.

Seems like the US writers misunderstood "character" for "quirk" - being quirky and strange isn't funny in itself, they need to have something relatable and real behind them, a motivation we can understand beyond "because it sounds funny on paper".

I remember after the awful nightclub episode (the worst of the lot) they shift to mostly writing their own storylines with only occasional copying of UK. This causes the episodes to be slightly less cringe, but the unfunnyness standouts more.
